When you fly, you want the shortest path possible to your destination. The more stops, the more potential for something to go wrong and the more potential for delays.

Your alarm system is no different. The further the signal has to travel, the more potential for something to go wrong and the more potential for delays.

Guard Tronic communicators go from your alarm system to our UL Listed / FM Approved central station in Fort Smith. No additional stops. No clearinghouses. No contracted monitoring stations.

Jordon Brown has literally grown up in the company. He started working in 1988 making screens and running wire in the Muskogee office. He worked his way up to working in both service and install before deciding that the Central Station was where he wanted to be.

In 1998 he spent his evenings and weekends helping move the Central Station from the old site on Carnal to our current location. During this move, he learned all of the ins and outs. In November 1998 his extra time and hard work paid off, and he was named Central Station Manager.

He went on to become the Regional Manager in Fort Smith in 2003. He now serves as President of the company. He is also involved in the Arkansas Alarm Association where he passes on his incredible knowledge base in the alarm licensing class, he teaches monthly. He has his NICET III certification and is the fire alarm guru that many in the industry turn to for information.

Congratulations on reaching the milestone of 38 years in the company!

Alarm companies use the term “central station” to mean their monitoring station….but it has a VERY specific meaning. It means it is UL Listed or FM Approved.

The alarm industry’s attorney outlined a lawsuit in his daily email that involved a home burning that was NOT protected by a central station. His email of the summarization of the case (still somewhat lengthy) is linked below.

Use a company that is UL Listed and FM Approved!

Guard Tronic President, Jordon Brown, has been added to UL Technical Committee 8555 for Auxiliary Service Providers. This new UL standard was created to write the specifications for alarm Network Operation Centers (NOC), otherwise known as alarm clearinghouses.

“Auxiliary Service Providers” is a new term added to NFPA 72, the National Fire Alarm and Signaling Code, 2025 edition, to help ensure the reliability of fire alarm delivery service from cellular and network communicators. Regular followers of Guard Tronic will know that several of these clearinghouses, or their delivery method, have failed recently.

“I have spoken to several UL auditors over the last few years, and we are all concerned about the lack of transparency in service providers about their NOCs. I believe that they should meet the same minimum requirements that central stations conform to under UL827.” Jordon said upon his appointment to the technical committee. “I will work on TC 8555 to allow Nationally Recognized Testing Laboratory access to these clearinghouses to inspect them to this new standard.”

The National Fire Protection Association created the linked video to better explain how the Auxiliary Service Providers support signal communication from a fire alarm system to a Central Station or remote station:

Allowing a fire alarm system to remain in trouble puts YOU at risk!

Fire alarm systems should not be allowed to remain in a trouble. The building owner is putting the lives of everyone in their home or business at risk when their fire alarm systems is not operating properly. Even if everyone makes it out of a fire alive, an insurance company may not pay out on the loss if the fire alarm system was in a trouble condition when the fire was ignited.

Trouble conditions can be as simple as a low battery trouble or as complex as a ground fault on a wire.

Guard Tronic has been a member of NFPA for decades and has NICET certified staff ready to help fix the trouble conditions on your fire alarm system. If your fire alarm system is a proprietary system, we can find solutions to replace the system with a state-of-the-art fire detection system that we will be able to service for years into the future.
