VOTERS OF CRAWFORD COUNTY:
Because of the misinformation being posted in public locations and disseminated on social media, we, the candidates for Republican Justice of the Peace in Crawford County, want to clear up the confusion. This will take a few minutes, so please bear with us as we attempt to answer your questions.
Q: Are there two separate lawsuits having to do with libraries involving Crawford County?
A: Yes. A coalition of liberal groups wanted to sue regarding Arkansas Act 372, which was passed by the Legislature and signed into law by Governor Sarah Sanders. It concerned the appropriateness of books in libraries. This lawsuit could have been filed against any library in the state of Arkansas. However, they chose Crawford County as their test case, perhaps because we are a small county with limited resources. We had no choice but to hire attorneys to defend us
The second lawsuit was brought by three Crawford County residents: Rebecka Virden, Samantha Rowlett, and Nina Prater, on behalf of themselves and their minor children. It was filed against Crawford County Judge Chris Keith, Crawford County Quorum Court, Library Board of Directors, all in official capacity only.
Q: What do these three women say was done wrong? What was harmful to them and to their minor children?
A: They allege that the Crawford County Library System implemented a policy removing from the children’s section all books containing LGBTQ themes and placing them in a social section. The plaintiffs allege this policy was imposed on the Library System by the Crawford County Quorum Court.
Q: Was it?
A: No. Not one ordinance or resolution was done by the Quorum Court. Not a single vote was done by the Quorum Court to create a social section.
Q: So who created the social section?
A: This was all done by the library director at the time, Deidre Gryzmala.
Q: Why did the Quorum Court spend all this money?
A: When we are sued, we are required to have an attorney to defend us in court.
Q: How’d we ever get in this situation in the first place?
A: The former library director, Deidre Gryzmala, took it upon herself to create a special display of LGBTQ themed books for “Gay Pride Month.” She displayed this in a prominent location in the library. This led to a community uproar by parents who found the display inappropriate.
Q: How would you sum this up?
A: In Crawford County, Democrats sue you, then criticize you for spending money for attorneys and court costs. It’s rather like the guy who did something bad to his parents, then threw himself on the mercy of the court because he was an orphan.
The Democrats also claim that 1.8 Million in tax loss by the Qourum Court. This is another false claim. The mistake that was made had nothing to do with the Qourum Court and was made by the previous administration.
The Democrats want to run on lies and deception. VOTE REPUBLICAN!!!
