It's not uncommon for people to not know what this stuff is. It's technical name is Gloeocapsa Magma - an airborn algae that literally eats the life out of your shingles - but is known more simply as black algae. All asphalt/fiberglass shingles are susceptible to it, and it will show up first on the northern roof exposure. If you notice it on your roof, don't panic, just call me for an estimate to

have it safely cleaned off. The cleaning helps preserve the life of the shingles and comes with a 3-yr guarantee. Most roofs can be done for $200-$500.
