It’s hard for customers to understand, a small business owner is juggling a ton of things at once. Estimates and writing quotes, scheduling, bills, insurance, materials, personnel, Vacation time (for employees), skill sets, multiple trades, insurance companies, fuel, building department, the list goes on and on.
Sometimes, I wake up at 2am, thinking of things I may have forgotten or conversations I’ve had with employees, subs and customers. We really try to provide a great service and communication for our customers. Understand, we have 6+ jobs like yours going at once. Every change of scope or question you need to ask (to me) pulls me away from what I’m doing. Every estimate takes about an hour of my time plus fuel. That’s free to you. If I have to write 2 estimates, double that time. If you change the scope, that requires more time. It’s not just adding a small little area while we are there. It’s messing up scheduling ($), materials ($)and maybe personnel ($).
