Many people prefer January through March for planting, but the fall months of September through December have distinct advantages. This is a perfect time to plant trees and shrubs. As there leaves are dormant, this is the time that they are “focused” on growing their roots. Their roots grow anytime the soil temperature is 40 degrees or higher, which may occur all winter long in Texas. So, by the time spring arrives, this expanded root system can take full advantage of the surge of spring growth!
