Catching up on some builds from the beginning of the year. Yes, I know… A special gavel made for the Grand Master of Nevada. This gavel is made of acacia, teak, maple, and Bastogne walnut. Staying true to traditional builds, the handle has 3 acacia inlays at the grip and a lodge coin from the Brothers who commissioned the gavel at the end. The head is made of three layers of teak and acacia wrapped with Bastogne walnut. The head holds some of the working tools inlaid in certain areas at certain levels as well as a sterling silver Past Master’s jewel and the Navada Grand Masonic pin. Let’s also not to forget to mention the T-Rex that was inlaid into the back of the head. All of which were inlaid by hand. The bottom features a black and white checkered pattern with differentiating grain flow.

One of my most unique builds yet — a handmade fountain pen crafted from a real corncob. 🌽✒️

This pen keeps the natural texture and character of the cob while being sealed and finished for a smooth, durable feel in the hand. Paired with polished metal hardware and a classic fountain nib, it’s a perfect mix of rustic charm and functional craftsmanship.

A true conversation piece for collectors, writers, and anyone who appreciates something completely different.

A bolt-action mechanical pencil with an oil derrick inlay…yes please!

This mechanical pencil features a smooth bolt-action…action (ha!) to advance the lead and even hides a small eraser beneath the primer cap. Believe it or not, the wood section started as 22 VERY small pieces at one point. This was the very first blank ever fitted for the bolt action pen/pencil!

Perfect for the man who appreciates craftsmanship, grit, and a tool that tells a story.

The last gavel of 2025! This gavel is made of teak from Puerto Rico featuring inlays of the working tools and a custom coin on the face. The overall dimensions match the Lodge’s original gavel with the WMs signature burned on the back.

As for the case, I heard the WM had a passion for hubcaps. This case uses an original 1938 Ford V8 hubcap with a checkered floor on the interior.

This gavel took some time to build. Made of old growth redwood that has been stabilized and dyed black. The white inlays you see are not wood but hand carved bone. Definitely a first for me! One underrated part that normally goes by unnoticed and I am most proud of is the joint between the head and the handle; notice how the handle matches the curve of the head - a not so easy task. A report back from the owner says the gavel is loud 😎 Mission accomplished!

These special gavels were commissioned as gifts to incoming and outgoing WMs as well as the GM. Still working on finding THE spot for photos as well as timing during daylight hours…. My 2025 gavel hat trick! Honored to have been chosen to build these!

I was fortunate enough for a Brother to reach out to me asking if I could build him a gavel. I was happy to help. This particular gavel was made to certain specifications with a new challenge for me, an oval handle! This was accomplished by hand with a rasp. With this being made of flame maple it makes the perfect gavel for a Mason who uses a flamethrower!!
