Laurie, our Social Media Manager, has asked me for an update on how I am doing since Jim has gone. Considering all things, I’m doing pretty well. The adjustment to losing someone seemingly bigger than life is huge. Even Roo and Ladybug have had to change their daily expectations. Luckily, I like to be busy and with all that’s left to clean up of the remains of the business outside and on paper, I can find many opportunities for staying active. Sometimes too active, lol. Simply maintaining the property and keeping up with repairs is a full time job. Initially, it seemed as though everything was breaking or blowing up, two or three times a week. We finally got the problems solved after a couple of months and it’s been calmer. The kids have all stepped up to help however they can. Bit by bit we’re getting things simplified and cleaned up. The summer heat slowed our work but with cooler temperatures before long, we’ll be able to accomplish a lot more faster. The flowerbeds have suffered with the heat but just this week, I’m seeing fresh blooms on the Henry and Augusta Duelberg salvia, Turk’s cap, Rock Rose, honeysuckle and Autumn clematis. I’m even getting tomatoes off most of the plants! Chickens are laying well but i only get eggs when I can beat the snakes to the nest!
Life is very different without Jim. Thank God I have all the memories of our life together to look back on. It was quite a ride!!!! I intend to stay busy and revert the property back to the pasture it was before we built the greenhouses. That was the plan Jim and I talked about once we’d closed the business.
I want to thank each and every one of you for supporting our business, for your prayers as Jim battled cancer and for your continued kind words and thoughts. We couldn’t have had such a beautiful nursery and all the memories without your help!”
