Very happy to share that "The Crane at Gloucester Marine Railways" was awarded Third Place in The New England Watercolor Society 2025 Regional Exhibition. This half-sheet watercolor (15" × 22") was painted in the studio earlier this year.

The show is now on view at the Mosesian Center for the Arts, 321 Arsenal Street, Watertown, MA, and runs through January 9, 2026.

If you’re nearby, the opening reception is on Saturday, December 6, 2–4 pm, and I would love to see you there.

Great news from the Rockport Art Association & Museum!

South End Construction received the Raymond Beaupré Award for Excellence in Representational Watercolor in the RAA&M National Juried Show.

This painting began as a small plein-air study from a Sunday walk through the South End. Yes, the title is about as literal as it gets (despite the wise counsel of the great Sam “Citrus Cooler” Allerton Green). I took that study back to the studio and developed it into this larger piece, and I’m really happy with how it came together.

Thank you to the RAA&M for hosting this event, and to the award donor for making this recognition possible. It’s a real honor to be selected.

Here are a few more from Cape Ann Plein Air 2025!

I can't overstate how much fun it was painting these a few weeks ago. These are all quarter sheets, painted "en plein air" within the same 1/4-mile area of downtown Gloucester. It’s easy to see why this town has drawn artists for over a century. I never run out of things to paint!

I also want to take a moment to thank the staff and volunteers at CAPA. So much of what they do happens behind the scenes, and it makes the week run smoothly for all of us. Their work creates an event that’s not only well organized, but genuinely fun to be a part of.

I am grateful to have participated again this year!

Great news from Gloucester!
I’m very happy to share that my painting “The Crane at Gloucester Marine Railways” received an Honorable Mention at Cape Ann Plein Air!

This year’s event was incredible! I had a fantastic time painting all week and hanging with the Sharksmouth crew. The field was packed with amazing artists from across the country, and just being part of it was an honor. Receiving an award on top of that was truly humbling.

Great news from Plein Air Litchfield

I’m honored to share that my painting "Fife & Drum," created last week in Kent, CT, was awarded First Place!

It was such a pleasure painting in a great location alongside friends, some I just met last week, others I’ve known for decades. I’m so grateful to Susan, Michele, and the entire team who made this event such a success. I’m thrilled to be returning in 2026!

Here are two of my favorites from the week (both sold at the gala).

Thank you SDWS! Very glad to be a part of this amazing show!

Thank you SDWS! Very glad to be a part of this amazing show!

Congratulations to Dylan McKnight / Fine Art whose painting “Laying the Foundation at Gloucester Marine Railways” was awarded Second Place in the SDWS 9th Annual Plein Air Exhibition "Out n About!"

Juror Geoffrey Allen praised the painting’s bold composition and the way Dylan captured light, shadow, and complexity with such skill.

Stop by the SDWS Gallery in the Arts District Liberty Station this month to see the full show, along with all the paintings featured in our July Member Show, "A Story of One's Own." Two inspiring collections, one gallery!

Open Wednesday–Sunday, 11am–3pm
Free admission and free parking!

I've been a bit slow to post lately, but there's a lot of great news to share.

It's a great honor to be invited back to Cape Ann Plein Air again this year! I will be joining another amazing group of artists in October. Last year was a blast—huge thanks to the kind folks at Cape Ann Plein Air for all their hard work. I’m really looking forward to returning! Follow Cape Ann Plein Air for updates.

For now, here are a few of the paintings from last year's event.

It’s been a bit too cold for plein air painting lately (well, for me, anyway), so I painted this from a few reference photos I took last fall. Looking forward to getting back outside soon!

Join me next Sunday (Feb 23) at The Guild of Boston Artists on Newbury - I'll be doing a demo from 2 PM until about 4 PM. Not sure what I'll paint - most likely something Boston-themed - I would love to see you there!

This demo is being hosted by New England Watercolor Society in connection with their awesome annual Signature Member Show.

Started this a while ago as a plein air sketch during a visit to the CSX yard here in Framingham. I still feel it needs a few things but I'm going to let it sit for a while until I decide.
