These doors are original to the house and the current owners wanted to repair them as the single panel was popping out and the panel stops were cracked and broken. I rabbited 1-1/4” pine stops 3/16” to hold the panel in place. The doors took a lot of sanding and patching and priming, and the final coat of paint went on beautiful! We and the owners are super pleased with the results!

Since September I haven’t been able to be on the job site due to having ruptured my right Achilles tendon. Recovery has been slow. The mental aspect of not being able to be mobile has been debilitating at times. Since January 1, I’m finally in a sneaker, can drive short distances, and can navigate stairs almost without issue. I’m thankful for a number of things throughout this recovery process: my family, a business partner who carries on at the job sites, fantastic neighbors and friends, my wife and her job that provides benefits, my mindful meditation practice, an outstanding surgeon, and fabulous physical therapists. Instead of banging nails (which I do miss dearly), I’m learning to nurture my family with food- breakfasts and homemade pasta and sauce; I’m able to take the time to study for the CSL exam; I’ve been productive around the house completing small tasks like installing the hardware on our French doors (something that took me 4 years to get to); and spending time with our aging pup. So while I do long for the time in the field, this experience has helped to remind me of the things about which I am passionate, and all the love that surrounds me.

Vinny and I returned to FHS for this year’s Peace Takes Practice conference. So honored to be invited again to speak. Our topic? Character + Intelligence = Career Readiness. Students were engaged, kind, thoughtful, and collaborative. Plus they liked the pens we gave them :)

We rough cut our 1x6 casing an inch or so long with a 5 degree bevel at the bottom to fit the sill. Padriac is learning how to mark casing for accurate cuts off the level line of the top trim board. Using to retrim these 80 year old windows.
