I am accepting new work again, but selectively, so as not to get too backed up again. Over five months, I succeeded in greatly (but not entirely) reducing the backlog. I am starting to post photos of some of the jobs completed in the past few months. I have found I cannot work as many hours of the day as I used to, and summertime adds many maintenance tasks outside the workshop!

IMPORTANT ANNOUNCEMENT!

I have found I need to take another hiatus from taking on new work in order to catch up on current work and to attend to other matters.

I have no plans to retire! However, effective immediately, and for an indefinite time, I will not be accepting new work.

I will not be away from the workbench completely—I will still be working to complete work in progress, while also striving to catch up on various personal and home maintenance matters that have been sorely neglected for too long. (When I took a similar break a year ago, I accomplished but a fraction of what I had hoped to do.)

If I already have your instrument here, it will not be affected. Those less involved jobs that are currently in the queue hopefully will be done before long.

House of Musical Traditions will be sending work that might otherwise come to me elsewhere during this hiatus. If your instrument can wait until I am back on top of things, I will be glad to see it later on, but I can't say when that will be.

The constant flow of shorter-term work has impeded my ability to focus on and complete several long-term major restoration projects, and I again apologize if one of them is yours! (You know who you are.) They will be getting the time and attention they are due.

I appreciate everyone who relies on and values my work. I am sorry for the inconvenience. As it is, my turn-around times already have gotten quite long and unpredictable, and other pressing issues desperately need attention, so this break has become essential for my health and happiness.

I have just posted REVISED HOURS for seeing clients of Tuesday thru Friday, between 11 AM and 6 PM (4:00 on Friday.) This doesn't mean I won't see you at other times if there is no alternative, but these are my strongly preferred days and times.

I am not an early morning person! Before 11, I am just not ready to interact with people. Monday, like the weekend, will be a flex day for me—free for errands, household and music work as well as bench work—without having to worry about working around appointments.

I won't be working any less, just re-apportioning my energies somewhat and limiting appointment hours, so as to help me keep up with everything.

After a two-month hiatus, I am returning to the workbench and can take appointments for new work starting next week (2/5/24).

Note that I already have about a dozen clients who have been patiently awaiting my return, and I must still devote a portion of my work time to other concerns. So turn-around times, especially on more complex jobs, may be longer than usual for a time, and rush jobs are pretty much out of the question.

House of Musical Traditions will also again be directing work to me on a selective basis, if that is a more convenient route for you. I look forward to seeing you and your instrument again when you have a need for some repair or maintenance!
