6/8 1:55P: As of around noon today, U.S. Department of Agriculture is confirming an official case of New World Screwworm (NWS) in a Gillespie County goat. Texas Animal Health Commission, Gillespie County - Texas A&M Agrilife Extension, Texas Parks and Wildlife, and Texas Department of State Health Services are lead agencies for statewide NWS response and are gathering more information about the confirmed case from the USDA.

FBGC Emergency Management and other City/County officials and agencies will be coordinating with state-led screwworm response teams. Additional information to follow.

Fredericksburg and Gillespie County residents are encouraged to inspect pets and livestock diligently and report suspicious wounds or maggots immediately to the Texas Animal Health Commission. We will provide more tips and reminders this week of how the public can play a vital role in detection and prevention operations.

5/6 1P: FBGC Emergency Management has been tracking hail damage that occurred in NE Gillespie County associated with this morning's severe weather.

For those who received hail damage, we encourage residents to fill out the Texas Division of Emergency Management damage survey for privately owned property. This survey assists us and the state in tracking damage and also provides a storm damage estimate to TDEM that is used to qualify the State of Texas for storm assistance.

While an individual storm doesn't often meet the threshold for assistance programs, sometimes damages can be assessed together with other Texas storms to allow for certain programs. We appreciate your help in tracking storm impacts in Gillespie County. We will share additional information on starting insurance claims for those who may be new to navigating that process.
