Tomato blight
Are you seeing leaves like this on your tomato plants? Wet rainy weather is so conducive to the spread of tomato blight. Blight transfers from spores in the soil, through leaf to leaf contact mostly, although it can and also will travel along the stems, but slower. If your seeing these type of leaves I urge you to take immediate remedial action and remove the affected leaves. Often this requires removing entire leaflet branches. Removing these lower leaflets also allows better airflow. Better airflow and removal of affected leaves/branchlets may save your plants. Allowing it to go unchecked could and often does result in the entire plant meeting an early demise.
SOONER the better. Right now there is plenty of moisture I. The soil and somewhat cool temps for June, the next couple days will give the plant time to recover quickly from the loss of leaflets. When the temps start into the 90s and less posture more stress will result. I hate to see you lose your hard earned work and time expended to something that can at least be slowed down. Happy Gardening everyone

Tomato Blight;
Had a friend recently asking me about an issue they had last year with their tomatoes.
Tomato blight is a plant disease that is residual present in most if not all garden soil. The spores can winter for years. It progresses through your plants via leaf to leaf contact, like spreading mold. True it can also travel up the stems but is much, much slower than leaf to leaf. The first preventative way to combat and delay its progression is to keep the stem of your plants aerated.
This is achieved by simply pruning the lower leaves, leaving a space between the ground and the start of the leaf structure. Keep in mind weather conditions and don’t over prune, especially if hot, dry weather is imminent.
Some attached before and after pics demonstrate the desired result. Some even prune more aggressively, a little at a time to result in a 12 plus inch, stem, bare of leaves. That aggressive, is not necessarily needed, Even a few to 6 inches of bare stem leaving room for air movement and keeping any leaves from contacting the earth is beneficial.
Good luck and happy gardening.

Cucumbers, Zucchini, Squash, Melons and Watermelons.
A lot of cucs. Cucurbits should be transplanted 7-14 days from germination for best chance of success. Factoring in normal weather I always plan for these to be ready May 7-10. Right on schedule with them sprouting last day of April and first day of May. These will be available this weekend for purchase, with the advice disclaimer to give them just a few more days growth before planting. They’ll be 7 days on the 7th as example.
