⚠️ EXTREME COLD ALERT ⚠️

🌳💥 EXPLODING TREES may be possible across parts of the Midwest and Northern Plains on Friday and Saturday.

Temperatures are expected to plunge as much as 20° BELOW ZERO, and when that happens, trees can literally SPLIT or “explode.”
❄️ WHY THIS HAPPENS:
When sap inside a tree freezes, it expands rapidly.
That pressure can cause loud cracking or splitting sounds — sometimes mistaken for gunshots or explosions.

📍 WHERE THIS IS MOST LIKELY:
• Midwest
• Northern Plains
• Areas experiencing sudden, extreme temperature drops

⚠️ WHAT TO KNOW:
• This is rare, but possible in extreme cold
• Healthy AND weakened trees can be affected
• Falling limbs or split trunks can be dangerous

🚗 PLEASE USE CAUTION:
• Avoid parking near large trees
• Be alert when walking outdoors
• Listen for loud cracking sounds during extreme cold snaps
