This was a fun one! This homeowner wanted more natural light in their kitchen, and she had big beautiful windows in the living room. So we opened the wall up a bit! After we finished that, we painted the kitchen, hallway, and living room. The Lazy Gray was a great choice, and we refreshed the white trim and crown moulding.

Today, we helped a homeowner whose previous contractor gave up early on them. They incorrectly installed the sink cabinet, which of course made the sink tub impossible to install. We adjusted the cabinet, cut the counter, and installed the new tub and faucet. Resources were limited here and the budget was tight, but we made it work for them! A lot of people think drywall finishing is just “get some mud on the seams and sand it.” The quality of the finish is what makes the entire wall look good or bad.

A proper drywall finish usually takes multiple steps, and can take more if the sheets weren’t hung well. Generally, our method is;

-Tape coat: This is where joint tape is embedded into the first coat of mud to reinforce the seams and prevent cracking later.

-Second coat: The seams are widened to start blending them into the wall so they don’t show once painted.

-Final coat: Everything gets feathered out smooth so the joints disappear into the surface.

-Sanding & touch-ups: Light sanding smooths everything out before primer and paint.

If any of these steps are rushed or skipped, you’ll usually see visible seams, ridges, or flashing through the paint once the light hits the wall.

Taking the time to finish drywall correctly makes all the difference in how the final room looks.
