We lost a tree brother today.

Our hearts are broken, and we are devastated for Casey Baisch 's family.

Casey always carried a smile and a hug wherever he went. He worked hard and lived fully — always making time to play, laugh, and love with his family.

We were lucky to share a couple of projects with him over the years. In the Spring, we faced a tricky tree. Dave called him up to work through it. Casey didn’t hesitate — he talked it through, showed up on site, and helped our crew bring it down safely. That was just who he was: generous with his time, his knowledge, and his heart.

Our small island community is mourning the loss of an incredible man — a devoted father, husband, son, coach, friend, and inspiration to so many.

Please hold his family close in your hearts and send them love and strength during this unimaginable time.

Sometimes emergencies happen during holiday vacations. Today was one of those days. A tree had fallen during the wind storm and was barely barely hanging on. It was Leaning over a house, but we got everything down safe and sound! Now time to relax again ☺️

Merry Christmas from our family to yours!!! Hope you all have the very best day!!!! 🎄

Sometimes we have a plan for a tree and then the tree has other ideas.

The original plan for this dead Grand Fir Tree was for Dave to climb it and limb it on the way up. He was going to climb pretty close to the top and then take the top out. He was then going to leave the tree standing as a snag at about 30 ft.

Welllllll he was about 50 ft up and the tree had a lot of movement at the top and started feeling pretty spongy under Dave's spikes. We talked it out, and because there was so much weight above him still, we decided to have him come down and cut it from the ground. Safety first.

We tied that sketchy sucker off and Dave felled it. Everyone was safe and I had a ton of wood to cut!

This week we had a gnarly gnarly grand fir tree. The plan was for Dave to climb up to about 50 ft and then take the top of the tree. He would then climb down and fell the rest of the tree from the ground.

Well he got up there and something didn't feel right to him. First of all we had big wind gusts that were being pretty unpredictable, and Dave could feel the tree kind of flexing under him. He listened to his instincts and came down from the tree.

He started his back cut and the tree was just dust, it came down quickly. Thankfully we had taken precautions and we had a rope in it and wedges, and it went exactly where we wanted it to.

Dave started yelling for us to come over and we couldn't believe how hollow the trunk was! Terrifying that Dave was up there!! We were very thankful that he came down when he did.

While we were cutting up the tree we realized it was only hollow like that for about 7 feet and the rest of the tree was completely solid. Ugh you just never know!

Phew! We had an emergency call today for a huge uprooted tree that brought a few other trees down with it. Lots of issues with this one. It was blocking a street, it was leaning over a transformer box, and there were lots of things pinned and with tension.
Opalco came out and helped us keep the tree away from the transformer and Dave was able to cut the tree free.
Once it was safely on the ground, Dave and I worked our cold butts off to get the driveway and street clear.
Now it's time to go warm up by the fire!!
