This center column was gone by the end of the day.

Our crew first installed engineered LVL beams inside the existing patio structure to safely support the roof. Once the new beams were in place, the center column was removed, opening up the patio and creating a much cleaner view of the backyard.

We returned over the following days to complete the brick and gutter repairs, leaving the patio looking like the column was never there.

Most people do not realize those center patio columns can often be removed safely with the right engineering approach.

We install engineered LVL beams to carry the roof load and open the space up for better views, better furniture layout, and a completely different feel to the backyard. This is one of the biggest transformations you can make to a covered patio.

Message us to see if your patio setup can be opened up.

One column can completely change the way a patio feels.

This space had a large center column right in the middle of the view and seating area, making the entire patio feel broken up and limited. Here’s an early look at the process as we begin restructuring the space and preparing for a much more open layout. Stay tuned for the transformation on this one.

What used to feel tight and blocked off now feels like a completely different backyard.

We opened this patio by installing an engineered LVL beam to support the roof load, then removed the center column that was breaking up the space. The result is cleaner sightlines, a more functional layout, and a patio that feels much larger and more open.

This time lapse shows the full transformation from start to finish and the final reveal completely changed the feel of the space.

That center column completely changed how this patio feels.

By installing engineered LVL beams first, we were able to safely remove the middle support column and open up the entire space. Better views, better layout, and way more usable room for entertaining.

Most homeowners don’t even realize this is possible until they see it done.

That center column was cutting this whole patio in half.

Once it was removed, everything opened up. Clear sightlines to the pool, better flow, and now the space actually works the way it should. Seating, entertaining, and moving through the patio all feels natural instead of cramped.

It’s a completely different backyard just by getting that one column out of the way.

That center column is an eyesore… and it’s probably ruining your whole patio layout too.

It blocks your view, breaks up the space, and makes everything feel tighter than it should. Most homeowners don’t even realize it can be removed, and a lot of the time it was simply the quickest way for the builder to frame the patio.

This homeowner decided to get theirs removed. Follow along to see how much it opens everything up.

Most patio covers weren’t designed to need that center column. It is often just the simplest way the load was originally carried.

When engineered correctly, the roof load can be redistributed across a properly sized LVL beam and transferred to the existing side columns and foundation. That is how you open the space without compromising structure.

Every project starts with real structural calculations. Beam sizing, span, load paths, and connections all matter. Done right, the result is a fully open patio with the same structural integrity as before.

If you have a column in the middle of your patio, there is a good chance it can be removed. Reach out and we will let you know what is possible for your home.
