Tails ?! On the 601 ? YES every year we leave a few tails on some of our feeder lambs . Why? 🤔

Well , because we ❤️ our customers . A few years back we recieved a custom request for the Tail Fat off our lambs . I was totally bewildered . But this is why I love the retail US Lamb industry . A lover of cuisine adventures , I eagerly said lets do it ! My clients husband grew up in the Mediterranean and it was a sought after delicacy for his culture that they use it too cook with and I loved learning about what their plans for it were . So every year I try and make sure we have some . Our sheep may not be the same heritage breeds running around the Mediterranean but we sure aim to please ! 🗺

📰💥 Just an update on some of the summer things were are working on ......

✊🏼I am SO PUMPED UP to begin my on-boarding process to launch our online store & ordering system plus logistics for shipping our meats and other 601 farm goods nation wide and locally , plus new drop sites etc to come . 🌎

👨‍🌾 The Peterson 601 Homestead legacy gardens are in their first growing season and planning the infrastructure and layouts has had its challenges and rewards . A big goal is we hope to bring on the start of a small fruit tree grove this summer . Plus adding in our landscaping plants to start evolving the beauty and functionality of pollinators 🌳🍎

🐑🐐 Livestock wise we are continuing to strive to feed out quality healthful meats and are adding new cuts and proteins to our inventory . We are also going to be working with our team to develope bundles that make sense for YOU our customers with your health and flavor goals in mind plus giving you the most bang for your buck. 🐄🐓

2026 is a massive year of new growth for our little homestead and lots of goals coming to fruition and some still on the horizon . Last night I was planting by moonlight and I said to myself its late but I wouldn't trade this for an office job ever .

For our fellow Catholics in the Black Hills area I encourage you to look into the Catholic Land Movement. Morning coffee surprises on the farm! Our daughter came in gleaming with excitement as every single day multiple times a day she checks the ducks nest to see if the long awaited ducklings have hatched and here we have our first few ! It is an exciting day for us on the homestead as these are our very first home hatched ducklings!

Have a big summer gathering coming up? We roasted about 70 lbs of meats for our family reunion this last weekend and it was a big sucess ! Lamb and pork on the traeger slow smoked all day pulled beautifully and had the best flavor ! Of course we were too busy shooting the breeze to snag a pic of the pulled lamb and pork sandwhiches !
