🌭 Scouting, Service, and Sincere Thanks!

We wanted to share a huge THANK YOU to the Parrotheads of The Villages for allowing us to host a hotdog stand at your recent Poker Run!

It was an incredible day, and we are so grateful for the community’s generosity. Every cent raised is going directly to the Scouts of Troop 4998 (Clermont, FL) and will help fund their trip to the National Jamboree in West Virginia this July.

At Lake-Sumter Dryer Vent Cleaning, we believe in supporting the next generation. That’s why our entire team was out there:

• Scott (Owner & Troop Committee Member) was proud to be in uniform helping lead the way.
• Nathan (our scheduler) traded his phone for a spatula for the day!
• Beth (our administration rockstar) was right there in the thick of it making sure everything ran smoothly.
• Alice (Scott’s daughter) is the troop Senior Patrol Leader and was running the sale as well as taking orders and handling the cash!

Supporting these kids as they prepare for a once-in-a-lifetime experience at the Jamboree is a highlight for our small business. Thank you for being the kind of community that makes these opportunities possible for our local Scouts.

If you saw us out there, feel free to say hi in the comments! ⚜️

❄️ Does "cold" Florida weather affect your dryer? Yes! ❄️

When the temperature drops here in Central Florida, your dryer vent faces a hidden challenge. Because we live in a warm climate, the dryer ducts running through our attics are rarely insulated.

So, what happens when it gets chilly?

When the attic temperature drops below 50 degrees, the hot, humid air exhausting from your dryer hits that cold metal ductwork. This creates condensation inside the pipe. Instead of blowing right out, the lint passing through gets wet, turns into a sticky paste, and clings to the walls of the duct.

Over time, this wet lint builds up layer by layer, restricting your airflow, overworking your appliance, and creating a serious fire hazard. (Take a look at the photo to see what a vent with lint accumulation looks like when this happens! ⬇️)

Not sure if your vent is restricted? Try The Towel Test! 🛁
It’s a quick, easy way to check your dryer's airflow:
1️⃣ Wash and then put a full load of heavy towels in your dryer.
2️⃣ Set your dryer to Timed Dry for 45 minutes on high heat.
3️⃣ At the end of the dry cycle, check them for dampness.

If the towel comes out completely dry, your airflow is likely in good shape. If it comes out damp, your vent is restricted and your dryer is working much harder than it should be.

If your dryer fails the Towel Test, don't wait for the buildup to get worse. At Lake-Sumter Dryer Vent Cleaning, we are C-DET certified and ready to clear out that heavy, wet winter lint so your home stays safe and your dryer runs efficiently.

Soaring to New Heights! 🦅

Lake-Sumter Dryer Vent Cleaning is incredibly proud to congratulate Rhiannon of Venture Crew 2056 on achieving the prestigious rank of Eagle Scout.

As the chartering organization for Crew 2056, we are honored to support young leaders who are dedicated to service and community improvement. Rhiannon exemplifies these values through her hard work and her impactful Eagle Scout Service Project.

For her project, Rhiannon identified a critical accessibility need and constructed portable handicap parking signage for a local organization. Because this organization operates across various locations, her custom-built signs ensure that accessibility and inclusion travel wherever they serve the community.

Please join us in the comments in congratulating Rhiannon on this distinguished accomplishment and her commitment to helping others!

🚨 IMPORTANT COMMUNITY SAFETY ALERT from Lake-Sumter Dryer Vent Cleaning 🚨

To our valued customers and neighbors in The Villages and surrounding communities,
We are writing to share a critical warning about a sophisticated scam that recently targeted one of our potential customers. Our goal is to prevent this from happening to anyone else.

What Happened:

A resident was kindly referred to us by her neighbor. When she searched for our company online, she clicked on a deceptive ad at the top of Google that was designed to look exactly like it was for our company.

She unknowingly scheduled an appointment with these imposters. Their technician attempted to aggressively upsell an HVAC Air Duct Cleaning service. When she declined, he performed a quick, subpar dryer vent cleaning and then insisted on "inspecting" the attic. There, he applied a substance to her vent run and added a significant, unauthorized charge to her bill.

We were alerted to this by her concerned neighbor. As soon as we found out, our team immediately went to her home to properly inspect the work, document the situation, and ensure her dryer vent system was safe and operating correctly—all at no charge.

Your safety is our absolute priority. We will not stand by while bad actors exploit members of our community, especially under our trusted name.
To help you stay safe, here are a few simple tips to ensure you are always dealing with a legitimate and professional service provider:

How to Protect Yourself:

• ✅ Verify the Source: When searching for a specific business online, it's often best to scroll past the top results marked "Ad" and click on the official website listing. This ensures you are connecting directly with the company you intend to reach.

• ✅ Confirm Their Identity: A professional technician will be in a marked vehicle, wear a uniform, and be happy to provide identification. If something feels off, trust your gut. Our company, for example, sends a text message with our technician's photo when they are en route to your home.

• ✅ No Surprises on the Bill: The price you agree to should be the price you pay. While legitimate add-ons can exist (like replacing a hazardous vent tube), they must be clearly explained and approved by YOU before any work is done. Never accept surprise charges on your final invoice.

A Quick Note on Florida Licensing (And Why We Don't Clean Air Ducts):

This is a perfect opportunity for a crucial clarification. The scammers in this situation tried to upsell an HVAC Air Duct Cleaning. In the State of Florida, any work on HVAC systems requires a specific state-issued professional license.

• Dryer Vent Cleaning, the specialized service we provide, does not require (or even have) a state license category.

• HVAC Air Duct Cleaning absolutely requires a license.

This is precisely why Lake-Sumter Dryer Vent Cleaning focuses exclusively on dryer vents and does NOT offer HVAC services. We operate with full integrity and will only perform services that fall within the proper state regulations and our field of expertise.

Official Florida Resources: Be Empowered!

The State of Florida takes fraud, especially against seniors, very seriously. If you believe you have been scammed or want to verify a company's credentials, please use these official resources.

• Verify a Professional License: Before hiring for any service that requires a license (HVAC, plumbing, electrical, etc.), you can verify their status with the Florida Department of Business and Professional Regulation (DBPR).

• Report a Scam or Unlicensed Activity:

If you have been the victim of a scam or suspect fraudulent business practices, report it immediately. Reporting helps protect your friends and neighbors.

Please share this post to help us spread the word and protect our community. Thank you for your continued trust in us.

Sincerely,
The Team at Lake-Sumter Dryer Vent Cleaning

Hurricane Safety

At Lake-Sumter Dryer Vent Cleaning, we believe safety is always a choice. From preventing dryer vent fires to navigating hurricane season, the degree of risk you face is largely dependent on the preparations you make before an event.

Today marks the official start of hurricane season. For many seasoned residents of The Villages, hurricane preparedness might feel like second nature. However, it's always worth a thorough review to ensure you're truly ready. Waiting until a storm is approaching often leads to a rush for supplies and limited availability.

Given Central Florida's history with storms like Irma and Ian, we know that heavy rainfall, potential flooding (especially in low-lying areas, golf courses, and tunnels), power outages, and debris are common concerns. Here's a checklist to help you secure your home and peace of mind:

Generator Ready: Get your generator out, ensure it starts, and have it prepped for use. Remember, power outages can be widespread and last for days.

Fuel Supply: Check your gas cans and determine how much fuel you'll need for at least 72 hours of potential power loss. Don't wait until the last minute – gas stations can run out quickly. (Tip: use fuel stabilizer)

Tarps for Protection: Have extra-large tarps on hand. These are critical for securing your home after a storm, especially for roof damage, and are often an insurance requirement.

Water Storage: Wash and fill your water containers (aim for 6 gallons per person). Pro-Tip for Villagers: Consider purchasing 5-gallon sports coolers now. They are excellent for water storage and can save you from buying bottled water during the pre-storm rush. If you prefer bottled water and have storage, buy it well in advance.

Insurance Review: Review your home insurance policy for sufficient coverage. It's vital to remember that most standard policies do not include flood insurance, but it can be added. This is particularly important given past flooding in areas of The Villages.

First Aid Kit: Ensure your first aid kit is fully stocked with essentials and any necessary prescription medications (at least a 7-day supply).

Lights & Communication: Verify your flashlights, extra batteries, and weather radio are in working order. Power outages can affect cell service, making a weather radio invaluable.

Home Documentation: Do a thorough walkthrough of your home with a camera or smartphone. Document the physical condition of your home, belongings, and other important information. This visual record is immensely helpful if you need to file a property claim.

Outdoor Securement: Secure all loose outdoor furniture, decorations, and anything that could become a projectile in strong winds. This helps prevent damage to your home and your neighbors'. Check your trees for growth that could damage your or yiur neighborrs property, and fix as needed.

For comprehensive information and resources, the American Red Cross, Disaster Services is an excellent one-stop source for preparedness:
