DebbieDuckYarns

DebbieDuckYarns Imaginative hand-dyed yarns for passionate fiber artists. I asked if anyone was a knitter and she answered, "Oh I do. And that is who I am . . . to this day!

How It All Began - The Tales of Debbieduck

It all started many moons ago when I met this wonderful lady at a quilt show in Chapel Hill, North Carolina. I'm an expert!" We chatted for a few minutes, exchanged contact info, and promised to get together sometime soon. A few months later, we met at a fiber festival in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. I was with my daughter, who was about five years old

at the time, and she was with her two children, both of whom were autistic. As we wandered through the festival, drooling over all the beautiful yarn and fibers, the children were mesmerized by a woman spinning nearby. Our first get together was a huge success and the start of a wonderful friendship. Before long, we would all gather together at my house and as the children watched Sesame Street, we would knit and laugh for hours. My friend's son enjoyed chewing on hard rubber toys as a way to release his boundless energy. One day I stumbled across a Daffy Duck rubber figurine while shopping and thought it would be perfect for him. As I walked over to this happily swinging little boy at the schoolyard, I handed him the figurine. He gave me a great big hug and within a few moments, Daffy Duck was affectionately renamed "Debbieduck". I have been knitting most of my life. It makes me happy and is fun to do. I am far from being an expert knitter, but have a solid knowledge of techniques, yarns, literature, and maintain a fabulous reference library. A few years ago, I was introduced to the art of hand-dying yarn by my wonderful cousin, who is a passionate knitter and lover of all fiber arts. She unleashed me! Hand-painting yarn gives me the freedom to let my imagination run wild. And what is even more rewarding is seeing someone else ooh and aah over the yarns I have dyed. I hope you all fall in love with my yarns as much as I have creating them.

When I started dying yarn years ago, I never imagined turning it into a business. I figured I'd just play with some colors and knit with the yarn I dyed. My closest friends and family suggested that I start selling it on Etsy and before I knew it, there were pages on all the social media platforms, a full on website, accounting software, photography lighting, and everything needed to sell yarn at local artisan markets. The amount of support that I received from this community is unbelievable. I have met so many incredible people over the last 5 years and have learned so much along the way.

As we near the end of 2021, I have made the difficult decision to close DebbieDuckYarns. The past two years have been difficult for everyone and I have decided that going forward, I want to focus all of my energy on spending quality time with the ones I love.

With that being said, all of the yarns listed at www.debbieduckyarns.com are 25% off and the shop will remain active through December 26th.

Many thanks to all of you for trusting me with your hand-dyed yarn needs and giving me the inspiration to create the most wild colorways over the years.

I will miss you!

P.S. Is this not the most gorgeous photo of us from DaughterDuck's wedding? She is wearing the wedding shawl that I knit for her and I'm wearing the one she knit along with me because I was too scared of the pattern to make it myself!
