Gardening can be fun!

I’ve always liked being outside. It’s where I ground myself and escape from the noise and stress of the 9-5. I like and appreciate my 9-5 job...it pays the mortgage and buys the food but my “hobby” makes me happy! Before the crash in the early 2000’s, I had a small landscape nursery where I grew most of the woody ornamentals I sold. I would also create landscape designs that were unique for each home ( budget, maintenance, seasonal focal points, cut garden etc). Things changed when families had to choose between buying food or buying trees and flowers. Since real money does not grow on trees, I joined the corporate workforce and greatly enjoyed a steady paycheck...but I kept playing in the dirt. I have always seemed to plant too many seeds and always felt like I had to plant them all ...but that just meant more work to keep all the plants growing...all summer! I started potting up my extra plants and selling them at the road on an old homemade snowmobile trailer. That seemed to work out pretty well and it let me have fun growing plants that I wouldn’t normally try to grow. It was also very fulfilling to talk and share stories with others who also like to grow things. Gardening is an art based on science. Not everything you read in a book works and it can be very disheartening when all the money and time you spent does not work out...but most of the time...gardening can be fun.
