This week, I start off with an apology for the absence of a video in last weeks’ availability posting. We’ve had some changes in our Internet service in the past week which has been compromising my ability to complete certain tasks. Nevertheless, the“upstaging“ parade of floral displays continues to amaze and captivate my attention. Stepping into the spotlight this week are new plants like Proven Winners “ Purple Pillar” Rose of Sharon, and Rudbeckia, Rising Sun, “ Chestnut Gold”. And… our large flowered purple passion vine “Incense”continues to radiate its splendor! This particular variety, just like Maypop Passionvine bears fruit. So please… Take a couple minutes and review the video for glimpses of what we have to share with you this week. By the way, we have a big surprise planned for Saturday morning at the market. Hope to see you there, or at the Nursery . Bon appétit!Gainesville Garden ClubAlachua County Farmers' MarketUF IFAS Extension Alachua County Master GardenersUF IFAS Marion County Master Gardeners

This week, the so-called “upstaging“ parade of floral displays that I mentioned last week, continues to amaze and captivate my attention. Ordinarily, I would invite you to view a short video that would provide glimpses into what beautiful horticultural delights we have to share with you this week, but something’s going on with my Internet and just can’t get it to publish. So suffice it to say, check out what delightful flowering plants we have share with you either at the Nursery six days a week, or the Alachua County Farmers Market every Saturday morning from 8:30 AM-12 PM. Bon appétit!

As I have stated in the video that follows, this is so much fun sharing all these beautiful plants with you all. Each week previously un-acknowledged Plants which had been lingering in the background, suddenly volunteer newer versions of their own individual floral splendors, seemingly in an attempt to upstage all of the previous floral displays. But none really outdoes the other, as they all shine and captivate our attention and excitement over their beauty. Really what is most overwhelming to my senses is the continuous chain of floral displays that open week after week after week. It’s all quite exhilarating! Suffice it to say that this week’s availability of horticultural delights from our nursery, might bring you at least a small portion of the immense joy and satisfaction we get from nurturing all of these beauties that we may share them with you. Early in the spring, we began the procession with a modest collection of horticultural delights, and from that point on and continuing still to this week, the list of the delights continues to grow and grow, with each week another plant or two or three calls out to us that they are ready for showtime. Making their debut this week…we have Bee Balm, Lions Mane, & Vitex a.k.a. Chaste Plant. So take a minute or two to view the short video to whet your appetite of the beauties we have to share with you this week. We hope to see you sometime soon at the Nursery Monday thru Saturday, or at the Alachua County Farmers Market on Saturday mornings. As the rapturous waves of Spring continue to flourish all around us in the world of plants, insects, animals & weather, I for one am energized by all the expressions of such on a daily basis at the Nursery. So many birds, singing & darting from one perch to another, Hummer‘s buzzing and twittering their vocalizations, bees a-buzzing, butterflies fluttering around the parade of flowers blooming everywhere. All orchestrating in concert such a dazzling display to titillate our senses.
Currently at the nursery, you will find such a show going on, and we wanna share it with you. To do so, please check us out, not only here at the Nursery, which is open six days a week, Monday thru Saturday, but also of course at the new and improved Alachua County Farmers Market at San Felasco Tech City on Saturday mornings of each week. Last week, we also participated in a lovely garden plant sale hosted by the McIntosh Seedlings Garden Club at their central park in McIntosh. This week we will be at the USF Botanical Gardens on the north side of Tampa near Busch Gardens, which is absolutely an oasis in a concrete jungle. Not as big as Kanapaha, but nonetheless, a jewel well worth visiting, and particularly this Saturday and Sunday to experience a vast array of horticultural delights during the annual event held there each year.
And take a couple of minutes to view very the informative video, put together by Emily from our nursery, which reveals some of the delights we are excited about right now.
Bon appétit! Gainesville Garden Club@ alachuacountymastergardeners
