Thank you to everyone who made it out today before the rain ended it early. We were so happy to see so many of you again, who have supported us in the past, as well as many new friends who visited us today for the first time. We'll be open again tomorrow 10-4.

We have been trying a few new crops this year, and one of new favorites is the thousandhead kale. It's been popular the first two days we've been open - so much so we only have about a dozen left.

The thousandhead grows incredibly huge kale leaves and the plant gets up to 6 ft' tall and wide. We first came across this seed late last summer and couldn't wait until spring to plant, so we seeded immediately and put a couple of them in a much too small pot outdoors just to see. Sure enough, we had our first frost two nights later. Amazingly these pushed through and hung around until New Year's and with the milder winter they produced all winter long!

It's a mild kale that is great in smoothies, or chiffonade; in a salad with cucumber, cherry tomatoes, feta & balsamic (Blazing Bella goes perfect with this). It'll produce through the first frost and if in earth may become a perennial. If in a large pot may make it through the winter. We had two come up last year, both made it through the winter but one has bolted this year. It's a durable plant that doesn't need a ton of sun in the summertime.

We'd hoped to have enough for 3 weeks, but they've been a hit. We've got about a dozen left. They're meant to be planted right now, and can scratch that itch to get out into the ground while we wait for summer planting to come the first weekend in May. (we may or may not have planted ours today :) )

We also have a few other niche veggies, Chinese Pink Celery is really beautiful, like a regular celery, but with a bright pink stalk!
