šŸŽ‰PSA - sorry for the non-terrarium post, but I’m helping some real lovely folks coordinate this real lovely event and I hope it piques your interest! Rather than being another overpriced fall local harvest ā€œartā€(business) festival, Carolina Creator Fest is geared towards creatives of all mediums and sizes throughout North and South Carolina with a focus on live demonstrations and interaction with the community. If you make things, play instruments, dance, set things on fire, paint things or do other cool art stuff this might very well be the place for you! If you don’t want to sell stuff but do want to show off you can apply to just do that, too! The world is your oyster. Char Hall is doing a great job heading up this event and I’m really excited to see how it turns out. Share this with your creator pals because the more eyes on this the better ✨ a few important things to note - all types of art is welcome, the 10x10 space fee is the same as a single table fee ($40, or $20 if you’re willing to do a demo) so if you’re just starting out or have a smaller footprint you don’t feel pressured into filling a larger space, the trade off is just that table vendors don’t have to provide a tent (full sized booth vendors will have to bring their own), and yes things will be getting set on fire (glass and clay so far but there’s still time for more šŸ˜‰) so you should definitely apply!

šŸ“š If you’ve seen me at an event in person this year you’ve probably seen this book hanging out with me - I’ve been trying to be better about making pieces for myself sometimes as a little treat, and this moss literrarium is one of my special ones! I use it as a place to keep moss (shocker) that are collected from different places that I’ve visited this year (there’s like, 4-5 states in there now I think?); in the closer up photos you can really see how many cool different species there are and I can’t wait to add more! Is it for sale? NOPE HAHA ITS MINE (but maybe I’ll sell it someday who knows) šŸ›šŸŒ± also shoutout to Mendocino Coast Botanical Gardens for being my favorite botanical garden ever, and for unknowingly letting me smuggle some terrariums in for a little photo shoot while I was back out visiting last week. šŸ’•

Is this terrarium book terrarium too on the nose? Maybe. Am I going to stop being this obnoxiously on the nose? NEVER 😈 Also despite how much I’d like to keep it this literrarium is still up for grabs! You could snag it at Oddities & Curiosities Expo in Providence if you wanted… just saying ✨

🌱 Just a lil sneaky peek of some of the goodies we’ll be bringing to San Jose for Oddities & Curiosities Expo this weekend! It’s our first time vending in the bay and we couldn’t be more excited (sweaty) and can’t wait to show you all our awesome living (and lifelike) wares! Stop by for some moss and bad jokes, plus live terrarium building (aka Izzy makes a mess for two days and then has to sweep it all up) šŸ›āœØ see y’all soon!

A LITTLE BONUS PLANT CONTENT (so I feel less guilty about playing hooky the other day 😬) šŸšŸŒ± over the weekend I hiked up to one of my favorite bogs by my hometown to see how the darlingtonia californica was holding up after the last round of wildfires. Everyone was gorgeous and the weather was unusually pleasant and I even found a couple native jewel orchids growing under some conifers. While most other carnivorous plants are fairly easy to grow in an artificial environment, darlingtonia’s roots need to be kept significantly cooler (like 50 degrees F) than other carnivores but still get the same amount of aggressively bright light, which is why they’re only really found in a few locations in Northern California and Southern Oregon. Anyways, thanks for coming to my plant talk (post) ✨

šŸ“šSome of y’all know already, but one of the reasons I had wanted to figure out how to combine terrariums with books was because I was looking for ways to repurpose literature by problematic authors without contributing to landfills or garbage islands - I quickly realized, however, that those books were going to require a lot more time and labor - between spending a ton of time cutting the really thick ones and having to paint over or replace the covers, it was not going to be a particularly easy endeavor… though my current process isn’t much easier šŸ’€ I’ve had a really good time hunting around for books who would otherwise be destined for a landfill, or are damaged and unreadable, or discards from libraries, and figuring out ways to give them new life and new attention from both plant and page turning enthusiasts alike. This beat up biography of John Audubon was also really hefty, but it gave me an excuse to showcase more of his stunning work while also saving myself the time it would have taken to cut all the way through the book - a two birds one stone situation, if you will šŸ˜‰ you can take home this book or one of my many others this weekend at Oddities & Curiosities Expo in Baltimore, so come have a peek! šŸ¦ā€ā¬›

I didn’t want to make a big dill about it, but I created a small batch order of little bitty pickle terrariums for the Community Gallery @ Artmosphere last month! If you wanna see these gherkins werkin’ in the flesh they’ll be up in the community gallery for a lil while longer before they get pickled up by their new owners ✨🌱 please enjoy a portrait of me with my creations as well as some cuter glamour shots šŸ›
