Is your attic scary?

Not a trick question. Most attics around here are a bare bulb, a pull-down ladder, and boxes nobody has opened since 2011. Pink insulation. A floor you do not entirely trust. Something that rustles.

Here is the part that should actually spook you: you already paid for that square footage. It is on your tax bill. You just cannot use it.

A finished attic is usually the least expensive room a house can gain, because the structure is already there. No foundation, no roofline change, no footprint change. Just a room you have owned the whole time.

Nobody needs a w**e cellar. That's sort of the point.

Most of what we build solves a problem. A w**e cellar is different. It's the room people build once they've decided they're allowed to have it.

It's also more technical than it looks. W**e wants about 55 degrees and steady humidity, and getting there is the whole difference between a cellar and a closet with racks in it.

The most common spot we build them? An unused basement corner, or under a staircase. Far less square footage than people assume.

Aging-in-place design has a reputation problem, and it is about a decade out of date.

Curbless showers. Grab bars in brushed gold that double as towel bars. Lever handles. Wider doorways. Every one of those is an accessibility decision. Not one of them looks like it.

Done right, nobody walking in would call it accessible. They would just call it beautiful.

Three questions worth asking any remodeler before you sign. Including us.

Most homeowners compare bids. Almost nobody compares answers, and that's where the real difference lives.

The three we'd want asked: who's on my site every day, what happens when something behind the wall surprises us, and can I talk to someone you finished eighteen months ago?

That last one is the real test. Anyone can produce a happy client from last month.

It usually starts as temporary. A parent moves in after a hospital stay. An adult kid comes home for a year that turns into three. Then everyone quietly rearranges their life around a house that was never built for it.

An addition designed for this looks nothing like a spare bedroom.

If your house is gray, you're not behind. But gray is done. 🎨

The 2026 design reports all land in the same place: the cool-gray era that ran the last decade is over. What's replacing it isn't a color. It's a temperature.
