Finished up a project today for a customer who was having some water issues

Back in April we tore off the old 3 tab shingles on this porch and discovered alot of water damage that had rotted out a bunch of wood on the 2 layers of decking, the fascia & soffit as well as the ends of the rafters. Repaired the 1st layer of rotted barn board with new furring strips then replaced the 2nd layer of rotted plywood. Installed rafter tails, replaced all of the wood fascia and replaced the section of wood soffit that was damaged then painted it all to match. Installed new shingles and completely replaced all metal flashing. And finally replaced the old half round gutters with a new 6 inch gutter system.

This week we came back to replace the rest of the old half round gutters on the house with a 6 inch gutter system. Installed an underground 4 inch courregated pipe to send all of the water from the gutters far away from the foundation of the house.

A leaky roof (which I fixed this summer) ruined the drywall on this customer's ceiling. As I started removing it, I found 2 more layers of damaged material underneath. Long story short, I stripped it down to the rafters (3 layers of materials) and installed a new 8" tongue and groove pine board ceiling 🔥

A customer called and said that a large build up snow and ice on his roof had suddenly fallen ripping the gutter as well as all of the fascia metal down with it...

After a brief assessment, I came up with a few solutions to help the area and prevent this from happening again...

1. Installed snow guard on the metal roof that will act as a barrier to distribute the weight of the snow and allow it to slowly melt and release gradually. It will prevent the sudden "avalanches" of snow.

2. Installed new fascia boards and wrapped them with aluminum fascia trim metal. The metal trim will protect and extend the life of the wood fascia boards which the gutter hangers are screwed into and ultimately holds the gutter system on.

3. Installed a new 6 inch seamless gutter and a 3×4 inch downspout for superior water management. It will provide a much larger surface area for water to properly flow as water runs significantly faster off from metal roofs. It will help prevent overflow and is alot less prone to clogging as it is allows much larger debris to pass through the system.

*Also completely closed off a small cubby area beneath the valley that had been previously left open allowing critters to get into the house.
