The forecast for our area is calling for snow & ice. Here are some tips from Lamb's Heating & Air Conditioning's service manager, Justin, that will help keep your heat running & your home warm.

Heat Pumps:
Saturday evening switch your thermostat mode to emergency heat (sometimes called auxiliary heat). If you have a heat pump, we recommend using emergency/auxiliary heat when the temperature is below 20° for an extended period. You can cover the outdoor unit with a tarp, piece of cardboard being held down with a brick or plywood to prevent ice building up on the blades. After the freezing rain is done & the outdoor temperature rises above 20°, remove the cover before switching back to regular heat mode.

Gas Furnaces & Geothermal Systems:
If your home has a gas furnace without a heat pump or geothermal system, you do not need to cover the outdoor unit or switch to auxiliary/emergency heat.

With the extreme cold, your system may not be able to maintain its normal temperature. For example, if your thermostat is set to 72° it may only be able to heat your home to 70°. During this time we prioritize homeowners without heat & appreciate your understanding if we call to reschedule your preventative maintenance or postpone a minor repair.

If you need anything or have any questions we are always available. Thank you & stay warm!
