So a guy called me from north jersey about a customer he has, he has a customer guitar shop. The guy wanted a custom guitar, a Grateful Dead tribute guitar. He request cherry red and the first 2 photos are we he gave the customer back. I think “cherry red” got lost in translation and the shop owner translated that as cherry wood color. So he stained it a cherry wood color and the customer returned it saying it was too brown, which it is. The owner was frustrated and called me to fix it. So I took what he had sanded everything with 500 grit sandpaper. I went over the entire guitar with Candy “cherry red”. I figured this should correct the color. Candy colors are translucent and they usually have a base coat they go over. So on this case his brown cherrywood stain was the base coat. It came out EXACTLY like the customer originally wanted it and the shop owner is thrilled with the color. So I’ll wait about 5-7 days, lightly sand with 500 grit again and apply another 3 coats of clear coat, give it 7 days and do the final sanding and buff out.

The first photos are what he sent me with the original color. The last two photos are with the candy red. 😍

Another personal build I just finished up. I painted it last year and never finished it. I re-finished the entire neck and headstock as well. All new parts electronics etc. It’s plays completely effortlessly. I was so a**l retentive about checking the frets with a fret rocker and carefully lowering any high frets individually. So I leveled them with a standard radiused sanding block to fit the necks radius, but then I went individually over every single fret checking them and then lowering any high frets one by one with a flat diamond file for frets. THEN I crowned them and polished them, dressed the ends of the frets etc. it plays so well it’s ridiculous. The fretwork allows the action to he ridiculously low without any buzz. The buzz is so minimal on the low e it’s statistically irrelevant. The finish came out phenomenal and exactly how I wanted it to look. When I finish a guitar for a customer and reassemble it I take the same exact care of that guitar like I do my own. If it needs some fretwork, I’ll let you know. It might be minimal, something I can address by just lowering a few frets that are causing issues and it’s not expensive to do that compared to an entire fret leveling. I always try and figure out the most cost effective route because that’s in everyone’s best interest.

Now you see what I look like as well! Please don’t run away, I’m much less scary than a Sasquatch! lol!

New guitar build I finally finished that I started last year. It came out amazing! I just took a standard gray color that I liked, it’s not metallic or flake or anything like that. Generaly with candy colors you always use either metallic silver or metallic gold, one or the other. I used a candy blue, candy blue is semi-transparent almost completely transparent. So you it creates a blueish tint on whatever you put it on which is generally a metallic base. Since I didn’t use a metallic silver or gold the candy blue reacts differently in the light against the gray. It’s unique. This is how it came out, exactly how I wanted it to. Nobody has this color on their guitar it’s completely unique. I also re-fretted the neck. I put stainless steel on there and removed the old nickel frets. Because I leveled so perfectly I can get the action super low (the distance between the fretboard and strings) so it plays completely effortlessly without any buzz.

Finished up this beauty. This one of my own personal builds I’ve been working on.

Those are Lace Deathbucker pickups. Highly recommended. I’m really impressed with them. Really tight low end, it’s perfect. Mids are perfect, and the highs have this almost hi def sparkle to them, not harsh at all though. Really brings out the pick definition. These things wild looking too. They’re like an 1/8 of an inch thin and weigh nothing. Really interesting what Lace is doing with pickups.

Just finished up this body for a customer. Cool color shifting finish called “Fireball” that shifts between black, red, and gold.

A custom SG style guitar I’m building for myself. Body is all finished, sanded and buffed out. I ordered a Warmoth neck, wenge, with black ebony fingerboard, gold pearloid Celtic cross inlays, and white binding. I’m going to install EVO gold frets on it to match the gold pearloid Celtic cross inlays and all gold hardware. Lace Deathbucker pickups, Getting a custom engraved truss cover that says “Doombringer” in old English. Should look spectacular when I’m done.

This came out gorgeous.

My own personal guitar. Gray base coat with blue pearl over top. No clear yet.

Some EVO gold frets for a new project guitar. I pulled the nickel frets and installed the EVO Gold. EVO is hard than nickel but not quite as hard as stainless steel frets. They last a really long time and will allow me to use cobalt strings without wearing down the frets. Came out absolutely beautiful. It’s nice taking a break from installing stainless steel frets. EVO is so much easier.
