Good afternoon and happy Monday to all.
*Crepe Myrtle: Fast-growing, deciduous tree or shrub celebrated for their vibrant summer flowers, colorful peeling bark, and stunning fall foliage.
* Sun Requirements: Thrive in full sun. At least 6 hours of full sun.
*Water: Deep watering needing once a day to every other day during the hot summer months. Frequency of watering depends on the soil type you have and the sunlight your tree is receiving.
Fertilizer: We love “Nelson Plant Food” in particular Nutri Start Crepe Myrtle And All Flowering Tress “Sold in store”. Apply once a month during the growing season. Ensure to fertilizer in the summer to promote new growth and beautiful blooms.
*Blooms: Signature crepe-paper-like blooms. Bloom during the summer months providing they have regular watering, at least 6 hours of direct sunlight, and have been fertilized.
*Pruning: Cut back one node past the spent blooms to prevent seed pods growing. Cutting back spent blooms encourages new growth and more blooms throughout the season. Cut back and shape your tree in late winter to early spring before dormancy breaks.
*Mulch: Use Pine Bark Mulch or Hardwood mulch around the base of the trunk, ensuring to not mound mulch onto the trunk. Apply mulch at least 3” deep to help hold in moisture and keep the root system temperature down.
