🔥Ended the evening in pure bliss. Busy day in the shop so sitting under the stars last night with quiet conversation aside a crackling fire was sooooo good for the soul.🔥
First time I ever saw these fire boxes was on Cape Cod over a decade ago. They were being sold in a garden center in Hyannis. We bought one and used it a lot over the years. I was so bummed when our fire box finally met its end. Talk about a bang for your buck! So I went searching for another one, and it was then that I decided to offer them in the shop. We love that it’s easy to move and the punched out designs on the sides not only fan the flames but they light up a wonderful scene!

These rustic, durable steel fire boxes are both functional and aesthetically pleasing! I have boxes with bear, deer and forest scenes. 🐻🧸🦌🌳🌲

OK so here’s a story about a product line I’ve added to the shop that was born out of travel. First my trip to California this past winter where I first tried Touchland hand sanitizer when a family member passed hers around the table just before our meals were served. (We were out for dinner and with a baby in tow) Nothing is worse than getting sick while on travel, let alone vacation. I was immediately enamored with its immersive scent, power mist hydrating, skin-forward ingredients versus the traditional mundane sanitizers that leave your hands sticky and feeling gross.

So before we left for the UK and Italy, I bought the lavender scent and stuck it in the small handbag I would be carrying. What a hit - as a family, we used it often! Trains, planes, restaurants, restrooms. We all loved it!! And now after roughly 500 sprays, I have one permanently in my handbag. 😂💕 I can attest to why they are all the rage.

And if you know me and my shop, if it’s something I can get behind with a full-throated endorsement, I’m happy to sell it! 🚨Fully stocked! 😊

Here’s a wonderful antique with a stellar provenance. This little Rosewood travel desk was made in England circa 1845. It was gifted by none other than Her Majesty Queen Victoria by her secretary. The travel desk made its way with the Stevens family when they came to America (Gloucester, MA specifically). Its provenance was spelled out in an incredible letter dated in 1945 when it was gifted again and thankfully the letter was carefully tucked away in its interior.

And I just love the manner that they communicated with each other. How lovely they spoke/wrote ….. 🙌🏼

Castel Monastero is home to migrating swallows very similar to the chimney swifts that arrive from South America every May here at the Brick House. I immediately recognized their exuberant chittering. They are among the fastest flyers in the world dining exclusively on flying insects.
Have you ever seen or heard them while visiting the shop here at the Brick House? They’re nesting now in the tall chimney stacks on the 1805 main section of the house. These birds are protected by the Migratory Bird Treaty Act due to their serious decline in habitat.

Some fun facts about NH’s state flower - the purple lilac was adopted in 1919 as the state flower after much lively debate. Other considerations were the apple blossom and wood lily. “The purple lilac was chosen because its robust nature and ability to withstand severe northern winters were seen as a symbol of the hardy character of the men and women of the Granite State.”

And this I never knew: In addition to the purple lilac, New Hampshire designated the Pink Lady’s Slipper as its official state wildflower in 1991
