๐ง Why Are Phosphates Such a Big Deal This Pool Season? ๐ง
If it feels like you've been fighting your pool more than enjoying it this summer, you're definitely not alone.
One of the biggest culprits we've seen this season is phosphates.
Phosphates are nutrients that find their way into your pool from things like rainwater, lawn fertilizers, leaves, pollen, dirt, sunscreen, and even swimmers. By themselves, phosphates aren't harmful to peopleโbut they are **the perfect food source for algae**. The higher your phosphate level, the easier it is for algae to grow, even when your chlorine levels appear to be where they should be.
This year's weather has made things especially challenging. Between the frequent heavy rains, high humidity, constant runoff, and repeated storms, pools have been bombarded with fresh phosphates almost weekly. Every rainfall washes more organic material and fertilizer into pools, while pollen and debris continue to break down in the water. The result? Many pool owners have been battling cloudy water, recurring algae blooms, and chlorine that just doesn't seem to last.
We've heard so many customers say, "I've never had this much trouble with my pool before." The truth isโyou probably haven't. This has been one of the more difficult pool seasons we've experienced in quite some time.
The good news is that there IS a solution. Regular water testing, phosphate removers when needed, maintaining proper sanitizer levels, brushing, vacuuming, and staying ahead of debris can make a huge difference. Sometimes, though, a pool needs a little extra attention after Mother Nature has had her way.
If your pool just won't clear up, your chlorine disappears overnight, or algae keeps coming back no matter what you do, stop by Blue Crystal Pools. We'll test your water, explain exactly what's going on, and help you get back to enjoying your pool instead of constantly fighting it.
