Roots Nursery Save money when you buy Direct from the Grower! One gallon starter flowering shrubs & perennials. We We are total plant junkies.

We have one acre here in the western suburbs of Chicago where we grow, test and are totally in love with plants. From the traditional standards like hydrangea, weigela, lilac, black eyed susans and shasta daisies... to the new and unique like the latest coneflower variety or the newest lobelia. Sometimes I joke that we just do this to support or plant 'habit', but the truth is, we couldn't ever li

ve without them. What a truly blessed life we have, to be able to spend every day doing what we love, and meeting people like you who love it too. We enjoy so much, connecting with you here on facebook and look forward to keeping you as our customer for a long long time.

There's a gardening method, if you do it right you could be looking at a weed-free, water-free, work-free summer. The secret is hay. For those city folk, you can substitute with grass clippings. Mulch with enough hay and you'll grow fabulous plants and s***f out weeds, all while regenerating soil. Ruth Stout taught this method in the 1950s and we're still talking about it today! If you want to know all about her and this method, I wrote quite an article about it on my site. https://rootsnursery.com/ruth-stout-method/

So from my seed chart (in a previous post) I picked the most cold-hardy veggies and got them going. Spinach, Mesclun (lettuce), radish and beets. And LOOKY HERE. I see life. First sprouts of the season. Radish came up in 2 days. Looks like the weather might even be nice enough here in our zone 5 Chicago burb to get them outside in a low hoop to harden off as soon as next week.
