What a weekend!

Ill be the first to admit that I'm too disorganized to coordinate an event. If I had to do it myself, it would look like a total mess. If you were wondering why Springfest went off without a hitch, here are the real superstars behind the project:

Rob Dooley. A few years back, Rob contacted me looking for a new home for DanksGiving. He contacted me right after VA420Fest canceled their whole event. I had already decided not to coordinate any more events, but Rob convinced me to give it one more go. Without him and the Diamond Cup, Springfest wouldnt exist.

Ennis Fonder CG. Ennis' biggest job is keeping me from going too far down the "good idea" rabbit hole. He keeps me grounded in reality and does a decent job of keeping me from taking on too many projects. Every moment spent with Ennis is an opportunity to learn more about the cannabis plant, which is why he is the perfect person to lead the VIP. He also unknowingly holds me accountable which provides me with a greater motivation to "get it done."

Kelly Rene' Malone. Convincing Kelly to return as the vendor coordinator while her daughter was graduating high-school was no easy task and it absolutely caused a lot of stress in her life. Kelly keeps everything organized and, in my world of disorganization, that is a full-time job. As vendors, if you wondered why this year was much smoother than last year, thank Kelly.

Ryan Johnson. 420 Chief and I were introduced back in January, long before I was ready to start planning Springfest. However, the inclusion of DD420 forced me to get off my butt and get things started early. If I hadn't done that, we would have been way behind. While it became very obvious what benefit DD420 had for the vets, the impact it had on Springfest was only visible from behind the scenes. Adding DD420 to the lineup was almost as good of a decision as adding the Diamond Cup and I'm already looking forward to 2027!

Benjamin Romine, Rob Dooley, Nicholas Wilson, Kief. This year, our seeds didnt germinate. This would have thrown a MAJOR monkey wrench into our greenhouse workings, not to mention the free plants we gave away. The ONLY reason we had clones ready in time was because of these 4 individuals. The 4 of you absolutely saved the first half of the greenhouse season and you have my upmost gratitude.

Heather Martin. Heather ran the egg hunt. If you wondered who took the time to put the candy and tickets inside those eggs, it was Heather. Every year, I know I dont have to worry much about the egg hunt and that is because of her.

To all of our Diamond Cup contestants. You are all a shining example of Virginia's REAL cannabis industry. Everytime I see your samples, I learn more. Its also a fantastic ego check for me as I am constantly being humbled by the flower all of you grow and your willingness to show up and put yourselves out there like you do. My upmost goal is to ensure that all of you have a future in the industry that we all share and I will fight to the end for all of you. Congratulations to Scottsville Skunk and Tree Man on your outstanding wins with the understanding that there is still much more to come.

To all of our judges: Ennis, Doc, Grow N Places, Rob Coakley CG, Ryan, Ian Hill, Grant McCreary, Rob, and Dr. Bacon. By adding your diverse tastes and opinions on our lovely plant, you have all given the contestants what they were seeking. The value that each of you bring to the table is why the Diamond Cup continues to grow each season. If this was the first time we've worked together, you did not disappoint. If we have judged together before, you continue to impress.

Dr. Bacon. This was my first time ever booking a band by myself. Your patience with my ignorance in the process was greatly appreciated. Not only was your music the perfect way to top off the event, your willingness to step into a judging position was a great fit. We absolutely look forward to having you back in the future.

To all of our vendors, thank you for showing up as always. You all bring the much needed diversity that our guests expect everytime they show up to the farm. While the weather might have been a bit cold, all of you made the event feel a bit warmer with your smiles.

To all the vets that showed up for DD420. You all said that the healing we provided you was top notch, yet I still believe I got the better part of the deal. Everyone of you that said "wow" the first time you got out of the car has gifted me with the exact reason why we do events. Your "healing" provides the motivation behind 70,000 steps and 5 months of work. All of you have a home at Garrett Farms.

Finally, to every person who attended Springfest, the biggest thank you goes to you. Springfest was event #19 for the farm. Most of the events lost money. Several had diminishing attendance. You making the conscience decision to come out on your day off means something to every vendor, sponsor and staff member. Yet their appreciation is nowhere near the appreciation given from an event coordinator who has held many failed events. To be able to end an event without depression is a bit of a new feeling for me...but I like it! All of you have started a snowball rolling down a hill. This year that snowball picked up mass and sp*ed. Next year, it will be an avalanche!

We have a lot of plans coming down the pipes. I've been contacted by 4 different event coordinators looking for a venue. Plans are being developed and the future looks brighter than ever. As always, good luck and happy growing!

P.S. To the lady (retired LPN) and her husband who I met at the gate. I completely understand why you wanted to turn around when you discovered this was a cannabis event. Im also so glad that you decided to come in and stay. May you share the REAL face of our cannabis industry to the rest of SW Virginia while we all work to demolish the Stigmas surrounding our medicine. You were absolutely one of my favorite guest experiences at this event!

Im going to type out the normal post-event "thank you" post tomorrow. Im still physically recovering from the almost 70k steps I took this weekend.

I did want to share with you a personal glory moment from Saturday:

I was standing just outside the greenhouse when a fellow grower walked up and asked me to sample his latest grow. I explained that while I wasnt smoking the joint so that I could continue running the event, that I could dry hit the joint to experience the taste.

I took one sip off the unlit joint and said, "that tastes like Acolpolco Gold." His eyes got really big as he indicated that it WAS Acolpolco Gold! I got it right! Not only did I get it right, but I had a Ganjier standing right behind me who gave a nod of approval. It truly was an epic moment.

Come spend your Saturday out on the farm! There's alittle something here for everyone at Virginia Spring Fest 2026

Some jobs on the farm are very boring and monotonous. Mowing is very much one of those jobs.

Sometimes, in the middle of these jobs, my mind begins to wander. This morning, the struggles inside or government (and an assassination attempt) was weighing heavy.

Every now and then, when you are least expecting it to happen, the farm speaks to you. This morning, I was gifted a lesson from Mother Nature herself.

Mowing is one of the more disturbing farm practices when it comes to our ecological system. We will hit mice, rats, baby bunnies, snakes and who knows what else. The carnage is left in the field to return to the Earth...or...nature will send her clean up crew.

As I was Mowing this morning, I saw a murder of crows who had found the carcus of some unfortunate resident of the field that I mowed yesterday. The crows had only been there for maybe 5 minutes before several vultures showed up and started circling. The first few vultures landed and immediately chased off the crows. Then, more vultures showed up. Before long, there were maybe 10-12 vultures and they started fighting over the meal. For the next 5 minutes, vultures fought over the small scraps of food. They were so busy fighting that none of them got to eat, however, thinking they were at the top of the avian scavenger food chain, they believed they could fight until a winner was declared.

Thats when the eagle showed up.

While the buzzards were busy fighting each other, the eagle swooped in and landed next to the food. The eagle slowly ate its meal while it watched the vultures fight each other. The eagle, unopposed by the vultures, finished the carcus and flew away. Immediately, the vultures returned to the spot only to find the thing they were so busy fighting for already devoured and they were left hungry.

This got me thinking, which bird am I in this avian soap opera? Am I the crow that never had a chance to eat the meal? Am I a vulture who was too busy arguing to take advantage of the situation? Or maybe I'm the eagle who takes advantage of the argument?

The questions kept playing out in my brain as I tried to make sense of the metaphor. I had to p*e, so I stopped mowing. As I walked into my house, I had to pass by my bedroom. Quickly glancing in as I walked by, something caught my eye. Peaking out on my wardrobe was a sleeve attached to my old dress uniform from when I was in the Army. The patch on the shoulder stared back at me, a solid reminder of who I was: not just an eagle, but a screaming eagle.

In today's world, its very easy to be a crow, standing by, hungry, watching the world play out. Deciding to take action, you can also easily get caught up in the conflict and division created by the vultures.

Or

You can be the unexpected minority that shows up on the scene that is so bad ass that the vultures cant do anything about it. Today, decide to be the eagle. Be the baddest m**o in the room every time you walk through the door. Refuse to fight the stupid fights and instead, eat the bounty while the world looks at you like you are the problem. Explain to the vultures that you aren't the problem. Instead, you are the solution and they are the ones who are about to go hungry!

Airborne leads the way!

Well, all of the Diamond Cup entries are in! Good job, Virginia you showed up quite well. We ended up with 26 indoor enteries, 8 Salad Mix entries and 7 outdoor entries. The judges meeting went very well last night and the judging has started! Also, if you were waiting to buy a VIP ticket to the cup, don't. As of the writing of this post, there is only 1 ticket left and I'd be willing to bet if you are seeing this post after it has been up for an hour, its probably gone as well. Contact Rob Dooley if you are interested in the last one. UPDATE: ALL VIP TICKETS ARE SOLD OUT!

I wanted to take a quick second to say thank you to all of our contestants this year. I was told once that in order to be able to accurately judge quality flower, the judge has to have experienced the best flower in order to compare the sample with. In viewing some of the samples that were coming in, you growers have likely raised the bar this year. Thank you to each one of you for showing us your best and making life for the next month very...foggy for the judges.

We are growing again! With every step in the planning and ex*****on processes, we encounter new challenges and questions. As we overcome those obstacles, we also identify new ways to better serve our growers and improve guest experiences. Here's a few ways we are discussing expansion in the future:

1. A second annual cup. We are currently looking into holding a late fall/early winter cup. The timing of this cup is critical. We are trying to schedule the date so that outdoor growers will have enough time to harvest, dry and cure in order to meet the cup's deadline; however, this puts the timing in direct competition with the holiday season. Along with colder weather and the need for heated space, we are facing a few challenges with the planning process. Our goal is to have a date and location for this second cup set by Springfest and we will hopefully be announcing this new adventure when you get to the farm next month.

2. A 4th category. "Concentrate" has become a bit of a taboo word in our industry as many of the solvent-based extractions are still illegal in this state. In order to keep our competition legal for all parties involved, we have tentatively titled this new category "Solventless Extracts." It will include products like bubble hash and full-spectrum rosin. Im not currently sure if this category will show up in the new cup or if we will hold it until the 2027 Diamond Cup, so stay tuned for updates.

3. Multi-tiered judging. Last year, the Diamond cup could only handle 25 entries across all 3 categories and we sold out. This year, we expanded the judges pool so that each category could hold 25 entries. We even gave a 5 day buffer for judging incase we had more. The indoor category still sold out! In order to meet this demand, we are talking about setting up a tiered judging system with quarter finalist, semi finalist and a grand finale based on the number of enteries. More entries means bigger prizes. Selling out is always a great feeling...until you have to turn someone away because we are full. Our goal is to be able to accommodate all growers who want to enter the competition and never to exclude anyone WITHOUT damaging the integrity of the judging.

Again, these are the directions that are under discussion and will NOT be implemented for the 2026 Diamond Cup at Springfest. Make sure to track down one of us and tell us what you think. Until then, good luck and happy growing.

Calling all Virginia Spring Fest 2026 and Mission DD420 vendors!

As promised, we are preparing for vendor sign ups. While the weather has gotten in the way of launching our website, we are still ready to start signing you up. However, due to scammers harassing any event that has vendors and trying to scam them out of money, we are very particular in our process. Please read this entire post to avoid scammers.

Currently, we haven't yet launched our website. This might happen as early as today or could take another week. Whenever it gets finished, I will post the link and you will absolutely be able to sign up for Springfest as a vendor through the website.

In the meantime, feel free to email us @ [email protected] with the following information:

Business name
Name of person making the registration
Name of POC for the business at the event (if different)
Business email
Business phone number

Once we recieve the email, we will send a response as soon as we see it. Please allow for up to 1 week for this response. THE RESPONSE WILL COME FROM OUR EMAIL AND WILL NEVER COME FROM ANY OTHER SOURCE. Shortly after that response, you will be sent an invoice for the vendor fee ($50.) Once you have the receipt from having paid the invoice, you are signed up!

Important information:

1. We have already booked our food vendors for this event, so if you are a food truck, I'm sorry, but we are full already.

2. We will NEVER ask you to DM anyone about vendor sign ups. If a conversation needs to be had over messenger, we will reach out directly to you. We will never ask you to DM an individual.

3. If anyone says "we still have a few vendor slots available," they are ABSOLUTELY a scammer. I will do my best to delete the comments as they come up, but there are thousands of scammers and only 1 of me. They will almost always beat me to the punch.

4. If someone uses emojis in any correspondence having to do with vendor registration, it isnt coming from us. The only time I will use AI is to help clean up an event description. I will never use AI to make a post or to help sign up vendors.

5. I almost forgot that this also includes vendor registration for Mission DD420. Follow these same steps for registration for that event as well.

Thank you all for your time and patience with our processes. Our goal is to make 2026 the year that many of these processes get streamlined and simplified. As it turns out, processing the processes is itself a process.
