Hello Glenwood Springs!
My name is Leanna, and I am the new owner of Framing Expressions, located in the West Glenwood Plaza (51241 Hwy 6, #7)

I moved here all the way from Virginia, where I was framing for 5 years at an amazing local frame shop in Fredericksburg under the guidance of Cheryl Bosch - a certified picture framer with almost 40 years of experience. Her mentorship was invaluable. I am greatly looking forward to continuing to learn and grow my skills here in GWS.

In addition to my love of framing, I am a bird-obsessed pastel and charcoal artist. You will see some of my work on the walls when you come in, and I hope to create enough for a collection of Colorado birds in the near future. If you know any birders that need some wall art, send them my way. 🦅

For anyone worrying about missing Sunny at the shop, fret not! My two dogs, Ozzie and Finn, look forward to meeting you. They are easily won over with treats if you feel so inclined (just be warned - they WILL remember if you bring them something, and will expect it every time you visit).

One of my specialities is framing needlework. As an avid stitcher myself, I understand how important it is to show off your handiwork and preserve it safely for future generations to enjoy. If you’ve got a stash of finished pieces in your drawer and want creative ideas of how to frame them, I’d love to show you some different options.

It's time for Framing Expressions to turn over a new leaf.

I'm retiring at the end of the month and a new owner is taking over June 1st.

Leanna Taylor is moving here from Virginia, where she's been framing for the past five years. She brings a youthful energy the shop could really use. And for those of you worrying about missing Sunny, Leanna has two dogs she plans to bring with her.

I'm so grateful there will continue to be a frame shop in Glenwood Springs and am wishing her all the best.

Anyone who's been to Framing Expressions will recognize Sunny, my shop dog. I've framed a few pieces for local charcoal artist, Jess Wiley, and was impressed with her work. I asked her to do a portrait of Sunny and couldn't be more pleased. Jess captured that "cute puppy" look Sunny gives people whenever there's a treat involved.

I knew just how I wanted it framed, black and gray with a touch of purple, Sunny's signature color. Come stop by the shop and check it out.

Professional photographer Siri Raitto has brought in several photos for us to frame for upcoming shows. They are magnificent images of Alaska and dog sled races. She currently has some on display at the Lance Michael Salon in Glenwood Springs, and in May and June will have them at Bonfire Coffee in Carbondale. Check them out!

My daughter works at the Ice Park in Ouray, Colorado and gave me a copy of the poster from last year's Ice Fest. Of course I had to frame it! I floated it on a bright orange mat with a blue coarse linen mat around it and topped off with a bright orange metal frame. It's hanging as a sample at the shop.

I can't wait to get this year's poster.

Things have finally slowed down enough that I could create some new samples for the shop.

The first one uses one of the Prisma frames that I just started carrying. These acrylic frames are manufactured for your specific piece. You chose the width, shape, polished or frosted finish, frame color, lip color and, if you want, add a design in your choice of color. They have a really fun website where you can upload a photo of your artwork and try out and design frames. Go to www.bellamouldings.com and under Prisma, click on Prisma visualizer.

The second photo is a relatively new frame from Roma. I fell in love with the rose gold the minute I saw it. It took me a while to find the perfect artwork to go in it.

Last week I framed four pieces for artist Amelia Kraft and her pieces were so unique I asked if I could post photos of them. She does pencil "mash-ups" of Colorado animals combined with colorful accents. If you are interested in any of them they are on display at the Emporium and Flying Circus in Aspen.

September was just plain crazy. The number of pieces I took in (43 in one week), the size of the pieces, but worst of all was diminishing stock from my suppliers. One out of every three or four frames were out of stock, not sure when they'd get more. Some customers were willing to wait for their frames, others would come back and pick something different. Some trusted me to find something else that would work. Our two main suppliers now have websites where I can check stock 24/7, while the customer is still in the store. One customer I had last week, I must have checked 10 different mouldings before I found the two that worked for them.

The takeaway here - if you're planning on framing for Christmas, come in ASAP. I expect the situation to only get worse in the coming weeks.

Summertime and the living is easy... Can't you just see yourself sitting in one of these chairs, next to a favorite companion, sharing a cool beverage?

This is the newest sample I framed for the shop, featuring a frame from Roma's new line of metallic colors. I think they are all gorgeous!
