Design sketches (and before photos) for the 2009 Elks Lodge renovation project. The improvements to the Member's Lounge created a better functioning bar for both the bartenders & members. A kitchen was added along with numerous televisions. The sight lines were opened up to take advantage of the some the best views in America. Not many Elk's Lodges with views like this!

A chapel dressed in scallop shells.

On the island of La Toja in Galicia, Spain, the Chapel of San Caralampio is covered from base to bell tower in thousands of scallop shells.

The shells were added in the early 1950s, not just for beauty, but to help protect the chapel from the island’s salty sea air and humidity. The scallop is also one of Galicia’s most powerful symbols, closely tied to the Camino de Santiago and the region’s maritime culture.

The site’s religious history is much older, with records of a hermitage on La Toja going back centuries, but the shell-covered chapel seen today is the result of later rebuilding and restoration.

A tiny Atlantic chapel with a skin made of the sea.
