Happy little daffodils! I used to do more tulips but they are a pain and you pretty much have to plant new ones each and every fall. Daffodils? Plant once and forget about it. Ideal for someone aging like me. :) Digging around is not as easy as it was 23 years ago when I first started here.

What an absolutely dismal spring so far! But as of this week--I think we're good now.

Very late cold, snow, and rain really slowed things down. I completely missed my crocuses because by the time I got home from work they were always closed up already.

But..... the daffodils have just now opened today and yesterday! Still so many to open. Everything else is moving right along. I think we're on track now for actual spring.

Last September I finally did the big job I've been putting off for years, which was to dig up all of my irises by the front walkway, and thin them out. What a huge job! By time I was done, I had given away bags of dozens of them, and I ended up with about 90 plants replanted. And guess what? They're all coming up! Hope they bloom this year.

The hummingbirds will likely be here in the next few days, and the peepers are peeping loudly! 🎶 🐸

Next on my mind: my annual delivery of mulch!

Hello August! There are a few things blooming despite the drought and crazy heat. Everything has begun its slide into crispiness but there are still joys to be had. I didn't feel much like taking photos in July except for things I had to, so unfortunately I missed all the daylilies and all the mid-summer peak stuff.

The jalapeños are coming!!! It has been a slow and rough year for my jalapeños so far. Soon after I planted them, all the new growth was getting chomped right off. I sprayed with some stuff, don’t know if it helped. Then, many weeks of heat and drought I guess paid off because recently they were covered in flowers!! I had my doubts about the available pollinators since we don’t have bees like we used to. But today I looked at them and they are COVERED in little tiny peppers!!!!
They are coming! 🌶️🌶️🌶️

I missed a whole lot of the irises while I was gone for 10 days to Oaxaca, but I have caught the end of most of them. This yellow one? I've been waiting on it for a few years now, and it bloomed!!! It was one of the ones my grandmother had in North Carolina. Everything has been so pretty this year.

So I bought a foxglove from Goffstown Ace Hardware Never had one before. I got it home, and read about it, and was horrified. I don’t think I can take it back. Here are all the reasons it sucks:
❎ all parts of the plant poisonous ☠️
❎ produces 1-2 million seeds (it's a biannual)
❎ pests include aphids and Japanese beetles

What the heck. I’m keeping a close eye on this one. 👀
I had to make a cruel decision about which part of my yard I want to sacrifice to nasty beetles, which have been increasing year after year anyway. The tag didn't mention any of this. I hate this thing already.

Pictured: here it is sitting in a shallow tray of water because it was severely dry
