A blueberry update π«
Last year, my blueberry crop production was very poor. It seemed as if the bushes were trying to tell me something. Unfortunately, I had not trimmed the bushes for the past two years because of health issues.
Pruning, Maintenance and Clean Up πͺ
I began pruning on March 12. My pruning process involved removing small twig growth, any branches that crossed over each other, as well as several larger branches. To make this task easier, I used battery-powered pruners and, on occasion, received help from others. On April 9, I collected and stacked all the limbs and branches in a pile, which I plan to burn later.
W**d Control Improvements πΏ
This year, I laid down three-foot-wide ground fabric on each side of the bushes and added smaller pieces between them. This has effectively prevented weeds from growing under the bushes.
Observing Growth π±
While taking pictures of the flowers, I noticed some berries forming. At first, they were about 1/16 inch in size. Now, they have grown to about 1/4 inch and continue to develop!
Stay tuned for more updates on when blueberries will be ready for picking!
