From today:

Hi Dawn. A customer called inquiring about obtaining another journal of yours she had bought before. We had one and she drove 35 minutes to come get it. She brought in the first journal she bought to show us what she did with it. She was open to sharing so I took some pics. It’s beautiful. She’s hoping to leave it for her kids when she’s gone.

Did you know ? Memorial Day began after the Civil War as “ Decoration Day” a spring tradition where communities decorated fallen soldiers’ graves with flowers. May 30, 1868 ( The First National Decoration Day) : Gen. John A Logan, leader of the Union veterans’ group Grand Army of the Republic, officially established a nationwide day of remembrance. The date was chosen because the flowers would be in bloom across the country. The first large observance was held @ Arlington National Cemetery.

Originally established exclusively to honor Union soldiers who died in the Civil War, the holiday was expanded after World War I to commemorate all American military personnel who have died in any conflict.

In 1971, Congress passed the National Holiday Act officially designating Memorial Day a federal holiday and shifting its observance from the fixed date of May 30 to the last Monday in May.

The Porch & Co., Muskegon, MI pauses today to remember and honor the brave men and women who made the ultimate sacrifice while protecting us and our country. We also hold close the families and friends who continue to carry their memory forward each day. May we never forget their courage, service and sacrifice.
