Solo Car Club

Solo Car Club Solo Car Club "Unity" of Grand junction Colorado Solo Car Club was established around fall in 1993. This meeting was a Lincoln park in Grand Jet. of course.

It all began when a man with some ideas about stalling a new club in town that would not only benefit its members but also its community. He then began searching for others who were interested in this new idea. He started by asking people who were driving around in their cars, and then set up what was to be our first meeting. We all met that cool fall day to hear what this guy had for us. There wa

s about a group often, he started out saying what he wanted to do. We all pretty much liked what was said, and we began thinking of names for the club. That meeting went pretty well, and we decided to have another meeting that following Saturday at Pizza Hut. We had not yet decided what the car clubs name would be just yet, this took a lot longer than we expected. Choosing a name for anything is always a difficult task. After a few more meetings, and a lot more input we came up with some good ideas. Our first was the name "Solo" being that we are a car club based with lowriders it was a good name, not to mention that we wanted to be different, unlike anyone else, Solo said, "Alone, One, without presence or help from others" It was perfect. Well someone else had the name "Unity". This was also a good name for the club because it said a lot. hi fact it was exactly what we wanted in a car club Unity! So with these two names, and of course a little arguing we came up with our name, "Solo Car Club", with the clause underneath, "Unity". We decided to use both names because we could not decide which one to choose from. The logo pattern was another thing we had to settle. That was pretty much taken care of by print shop that did our logo stickers for or cars. Before we new it we were a car club. We wanted to do things for the community so we starting with some ideas about painting over some of the graffiti that was in town. We got things rolling and started covering up some graffiti in town. This gave us some publicity with the community by the news. Things were going really good, so far! Summer was just around the corner and we planned to have our first car show. It was on May 8th, of 1994 that this event occurred. The event started with the annual "Cinco De Mayo" festival on Saturday, with food, fun, and music. Then early Sunday morning we started rolling cars in with a final count of about twenty five, or so cars that participated in this show. It was a lot of fun for everyone, we even had participants show up from as far as New Mexico. The trophies were given out to the finest rides, and the day resumed to the evening. This proved to us that anything is possible, and that we would do it again in the near future. Our next event was in September for the annual "16 de Septembre" celebration in Fruita, Colorado. We held a car show for this event on Saturday morning stalling with rolling in the cars, and placing them in the park for the public to eye. There was bikes, and model cars as well. There was also food, and fun for everyone, with music provided by the festival, and cars of beauty shining in the sun. The event ended that evening and we packed, and went home with a couple of trophies too! With winter around the corner, and summer slowly slipping away we did not no what we would do next. Since this was our first year as a car club everything was new to us. We decided that we needed to do more for the community, so we put our minds to thinking again. Since Christmas was only around the corner, we thought of having a toy run for the under privileged children in our community. Finding out where.the under privileged was kind of challenging. So with the generous help of a members sister we found that the Rocky MT. Headstart program could use some help, and they were based on low income family's. So we organized a Toy Run that started some time near the end of November. At iiivst things were kind of slow, and not much response from the community was coming in. We began to think that this was a bad idea, and that maybe we would not make the deadline with over two hundred toys to donate. Then our hopes were uplifted when toys from the public began pouring in at a pretty steady pace. Things were looking up for us, and we met our deadline, and over our tally for toys! We had a party for the kids, and good ol' Santa Clause attended also. This event was the best thing we ever did. We felt so happy for all the children with such happy faces when Santa presented them with their gift. We raised over $15,000 dollars in donation money for the Rocky MT. Headstart program. 1993-94 was a good year for us and we hope to do a lot more this year for our community!
