Kent County recently opened a program called Kent County Lead Evaluation and Reduction that aims to assist homeowners who reside in Kent County, but outside of the Grand Rapids city limits. To learn more about this program, visit Kent County’s site here: https://www.accesskent.com/Health/Lead/
Finding the information can be tricky so here are some helpful steps to guide you through your journey:

1. Once you have loaded the main page, on the right side, underneath the helplines near the top of the page there is a link titled “Get Ahead of Lead.” Click it.
2. Once this page has loaded, look for the page titled “I’m a Property Owner.”
3. Click “Test it” at the top of the page. This will bring you down to the bottom of the page where there will be another link “Get Your Property Tested”
4. After this page loads, click “More Info on LIRA,’’ and scroll down until you come across the “KCLEAR Inspection” subsection. Click the tab that says, “Program Application.”
5. Create an account or log in to fill out.

Hotter weather brings lots of sun and Ultraviolet light, and with all that extra radiation, you won’t be the only one that gets burned. Paint exposed to too much UV radiation can quickly break down, posing a hazard to young children and pets playing outdoors. In early March the FDA reported lead contamination in cinnamon and cinnamon containing products like applesauce, ground cinnamon, and cinnamon powder. These products were imported from Sri Lanka, Vietnam, India, and other parts of southeast Asia. Although the FDA has issued a recall on cinnamon products sold by La Fiesta, Marcum, MK, Swad, Supreme Tradition, and La Joya Morelense, double check your pantry for these names.

Recently, health officials warned people not to eat certain brands of cinnamon applesauce pouches because they had high levels of lead in them. Some ground cinnamon is also recalled. Here's what parents need to know.
