Keeping your roof clean and free of any moss is one of the most important ways to keep it from rotting and being damaged. A great way to kill and prevent moss buildup is by applying sodium procarbonate. This is a lot more environmentally friendly than something like zinc powder that is often used for moss removal. Moss buildup is one of the worst things that can happen for your roof. Not only does it not look great, but it also damages your roof. Moss thrives in areas with a lot of moisture and lots of shade. Once moss is on your roof it will spread quickly, meaning you want to treat the moss as quickly as possible and prevent it from coming back. Moss damages your roof by storing moisture which can actually get through the roof and seep into walls even, damaging the house. Thankfully, the moss is fairly easy to remove either with a bristle brush or a hose down.

I was able to do my first house today! Although the roof wasn’t very dirty, I cleaned a few things away that will help ensure the gutters and roof are working properly. One downspout was clogged with debris and leaves which can easily be removed by hand and then a buildup of shingle granules in the gutters, stopping water flow throughout. A blower and hose was enough to fix both of these issues and then finished up with a soft wash of sodium percarbonate in order to remove any dirt or moss that might be left and more importantly to prevent moss growing in the future.
Having your roof and gutters cleaned can add several years to the life of your roof and save you thousands in damage repairs!
With the gutters and roof cleaned, this house is all set to do it’s job for spring!
