Look What This Beaver’s Been Gnawing On… 🔥🦫🍖

Fire. Flavor. Feed ‘Em. 🔥

As an outdoorsman, I process what I’m blessed with on the days I challenge what nature can provide.

And with that comes respect—for the animal, for the food, and for the people sitting around the table.

I do my best to use it all… and cook it right.

Not everything I cook comes from the wild—but everything I cook is meant to make people go back… and feed until they're full!

I grew up around great cooks—family, neighbors, friends.

From weeknight dinners to feeding hundreds at sample tables, to backyard parties and campfire meals…

👉 it’s always been about bringing people together.🔥

Because when you’ve got a few buddies tending the fire too…
You’re not just cooking food.
You’re building stories.

And we’ve still got fish to fry—
literally… and in a whole lotta other ways 😄🔥

I put together a page with the gear, tools, and flavors I actually use when I’m cooking—whether it’s wild game, backyard grilling, or feeding a hungry crew.

🔥 Some of the images and links will take you straight to the products
🔥 Some will lead you to similar gear to get you set up right

Either way… it’s all stuff I’d put on my own fire.

Some days you limit out.
Some days you grind.
Some days the river humbles you a little… 😆🎣

But when it all comes together—
it ain’t by accident.

This is the exact setup I use on the Detroit River & Lake Erie:
👉 Vertical jigging current
👉 Trolling open water
👉 Bottom to boat systems that actually work

Not perfect…
but I’m not wrong either 😏

This isn’t just gear—it’s a system built from real time on the water.

🎣 From bottom… to boat.

Buddy asked what I was building today…

I told him:
Digital sales, wood rails… and walleye setups 😆🎣

Got my Detroit River gear page live this morning—same style setups I trust the rippin' currents.

Then turned around and built this railing and got the first coat of paint on it.💪🪵

Same mindset either way—dial it in and build it right.

Seven hours north, with Slivers steady at the wheel, gas stops behind us and a boat in tow, we crossed into Canada. By the time we reached Endiaki Lake on Thursday, the yard told us we weren’t the only ones visiting — bear s**t in the grass, paw prints pressed in the sand, moose and deer tracks running down the beach like signatures in the mud.

This lake isn’t just water. It’s a mirror. It reflects who you are and shows you who you’ve been. On Friday, while the guys played cards in the lodge, I hiked alone in the rain. Along the bay I found a beaver swimming, unbothered by weather, at home in his world. My boots sank in wet leaves, my thoughts sank into gratitude.

I remember my first time here — 1998. I was 21, sitting on the lodge porch when the man we called The Vend looked at me and named me Silence. Back then, I thought he mistook my quiet for shyness. But the truth was, he saw me clearer than I saw myself. I wasn’t shy — I was listening. Watching. Absorbing. A wise old man gave me a name that turned out to be more me than I realized.

The Vend has passed, but his spirit hasn’t left. His cabins still stand: the Lodge, the Hut, the Vendor’s Cabin. His son Sam runs the place now, and his grandson Justin stood beside me at the grill this trip. Even Justin’s boy Sammy, 21 years old — a great-grandson of the Vend — was there. Four generations, still holding this place, still welcoming you as family the very first time you set foot on these shores.

This was only my third trip in 27 years, yet it feels like stepping back into a story that’s been waiting for you. Matt and I pitched a tent in the yard, joking about how we could’ve squeezed our cats inside. Rocky cooked as he always does, frying fish and onion rings. We caught smallmouth, walleye, pike, burbot. A couple suckers. A couple out-of-season trout. But the fish? They’re just the bonus.

Endiaki is about balance. Work and play. Brotherhood and solitude. Laughter and silence.

Saturday, I cleaned 15 fish. Rocky made a feast. Later, smoke curled from the grill, stars lit the sky, and I felt it again — this balance, this gratitude.

I’ll keep this lake a secret. It deserves that. But I’ll tell you this: when the water is glass and the fall colors flame against the rocks, you understand why silence isn’t emptiness. It’s fullness. It’s presence. It’s legacy.

And that’s the real catch. 🎣🍂🔥

Opening Day. Opening Month. Opening Season.
This morning, I sit in the Skybox — windows open, Orion the Hunter overhead, and the sounds of the woods slowly waking.

There’s nothing quite like the breath of fresh October air, the quiet shuffle of animals in the dark, and the promise of sunrise on Michigan’s bow opener. I’ve been blessed with nearly four decades of mornings like this — about 36 or 37 years now — and every single one still feels new.

I come out here not just to hunt, but to pray, to give thanks, and to remember why we’re drawn to the woods in the first place.

Here’s to a safe, meaningful season for everyone heading afield. May your arrows fly true, and may you carry home more than just venison — but also memories, gratitude, and stories worth passing down.

From My Hands to Your Kitchens — Grateful for My Etsy Customers ❤️

With chisel and patience I stood,
Carving grain as a craftsman should.
No copy, no clone,
Each piece on its own,
Born true from Drawn To Wood.

The birch spoon set sail through the pines,
To a land where the autumn sun shines.
In New Hampshire it dwells,
Where comfort food tells,
Of kitchens with legendary lines.

The walnut, so sturdy and strong,
Traveled west where the sun blazed along.
In Arizona’s bright heat,
It stirs barbecue sweet,
And hums with a desert-born song.
