I’m beyond excited to share this one finally! My customer Neil called to tell me he and his wife had an apartment that they were trying to get rented out by February 1st, and told me that they wanted me to do a full three bedroom apartment patch/paint, as well as refinishing their kitchen cabinets. Cabinet refinishing is one of my favorite work projects to do. This time I decided to try a new approach with the spraying process. Traditionally I would take all of the doors, drawers, hardware off, and label them all before setting them on a sawhorse to paint. This time I got crafty, and it was one of the coolest things I’d ever made for painting. I built a long 6ft tall rack out of lumber to hang each piece on that I took off. I drilled two small holes in each door, on a side that is not in view when they’re attached to cabinets. Then I put two Eye Hooks in each one, and attached them to clothes hangers. I drilled in to the top beam and put one more hook so that the metal piece of the clothes hanger would hang from the hook. Ultimately I was able to flawlessly paint each door of the cabinet while standing in place. I didn’t have to wait for stuff to dry on saw horses, I painted them completely, and then hung each one in bedroom closets to dry. I won’t paint cabinets any other way ever again, it worked amazing! I’m going to build one that I can fold up and take with me next, this was a trial run. Neil and I were very happy with the outcome! I can’t recommend Benjamin Moore “Advanced” brand paint enough for cabinets. The color was called pebble grey, and my new Magnum Pro X-17 sprayer by Graco Contractor Sprayers with a 311 tip made this job look incredible.
