Does anyone else go out to work in the garden and instead you spend an hour walking around checking out all of the new blooms and berries?

Today I worked on dividing the plants I started from seed over the winter. There are still many that are too small to separate or need another winter to germinate, so they’ll stay in their original pots. While starting from seed is more economical, the process requires a lot of patience, numerous steps and, in truth, a little luck (weather, critters digging/eating, seed germination rate and more). Hopefully the plants I divided today will be ready for you sometime in October!

While exploring various botanical gardens this summer, I was also searching native nurseries for unusual plants so that I can grow, collect seed and hopefully offer in the future. Some are past bloom or will peak in the fall, so I’ll post updates when more are blooming. But a quick google image search is helpful too!

Yes, another garden stop! This time it’s Chanticleer in Wayne, PA (Philadelphia suburbs). Although not exclusively focused on native plants, each time I visit there are more and more natives included in the amazingly creative designs. I have many more photos but am only posting the ones that primarily highlight native plants.

Another plant stop, Bowman’s Hill Wildflower Preserve in New Hope, PA. A beautiful site with an amazing collection of natives. There are many wooded trails, so I’ll have to return in the spring to see the collection of spring ephemerals. Plenty of other attractions in the area, including Washington Crossing Historic Park and the Delaware Canal Towpath.
