Last year we had tornados on 5/15.
They destroyed houses in Juneau and badly damaged houses in Mayville.
Of course there were a lot of contractors out knocking on doors.
Many homeowners had to sign up with multiple contractors that tried to help them but couldn’t because the losses were too large and complex.

Ultimately the really badly damaged houses got fixed by us because we’re 1 of 2 storm damage company that’s run by adjusters, not door knockers. The other company is Bulldog Builders out of Waukesha.

Fixing these tornado houses can require the contractor to scope out hundreds and hundreds of lines of code in Xactimate. Take photos and measurements to document it all, and negotiate it with the adjuster, who sometimes never even comes out and looks at the loss(because they’re Cat Desk). They just dispatch vendors that don’t know what they’re doing so the homeowner gets completely stuck.

The easy part of all this is nailing the house back together. The hard part is scoping and negotiating the loss with the insurance company.

Give us a call and we can help.

Please help us welcome to the team, Chris Bono!

Chris was the head coach of the Badgers since 2018, but struggled to both recruit Wisconsin talent and find success in the Big10s finishing 9th in 2026.

Shortly after the 2026 NCAA championships his assistant John Reader announced he was leaving the Badgers to sell roofs for Home Pro Roofing.

Chris reached out to us saying that he’s was considering a career change as well and wants to work for a group of wrestlers that appear to be leading the industry in Wisconsin.

He also said he didn’t want to sell Tamcos(we can’t really blame him for that).

Edit: This was an April Fools joke.

We got questions about structural collapses from weight of ice and snow.

Under most policies, this is a covered cause of loss.

While every policy can be a little different, most policies will initially exclude collapse, but then give you back coverage for a list of reasons like hidden decay, insects, weight of people/ animals/ equipment/ contents/ rain/ snow, or improper construction/remodeling techniques and maybe a few other misc reasons.

However, from my experience, I’ve never seen a properly framed structure collapse. You see collapses on detached garages with really rotted framing that were already trying to fall over before the snow.
Old barns built by farmers where 2x6 rafters are super long and can’t support a 30lb snow load, and attics/wedding barns with the collar/rafter ties cut out to make a nice tall ceiling.

If your home was damaged by the wind today, don’t call your insurance company and file a claim. They’re just going to come out, count up the number of shingles that blew off, and give you $30.40 per shingle.

There’s a really high chance that results in a CWOP or claim with out payment. Instead, you can text us photos of the damage and we can usually tell you how much a repair will cost.

If it’s less than 2 bundles of shingles(44 shingles) we can usually repair it for a labor minimum of $500.

Poplar Creek Church in Hales Corners had some older wood panel siding that was ski sloping. Instead of painting it again, they wanted to upgrade to something maintenance free that would last a really long time. We discussed their options and settled on steel panel siding.

So we took the wood panels off, replaced the plywood substrate to make a flat surface to install our steel panels on, then we installed 16” steel panels to give the church a new look.

Here are some before and after pictures.

Next week, we’re set to see a lot of roofs leak.
The roofs are going to leak for one of two reasons.

1) Ice dams.
Ice Dams happen when winter melt slides down to your gutters and piles up.
The heat from your house warms your attic and the bottom side of the winter melt turns to water. With nowhere to drain, it starts to make its way through the layers of shingles and underlayment until it ends up on your drywall ceiling.
If your roof leaks within 4 feet of your gutter, it’s probably an ice dam.
If installed, ice and water shield can help prevent this for the first 6 feet, but it’s still a good idea to clean the ice dam off.
Ice damming will be worse if your house is poorly insulated, or if your attic doesn’t ventilate properly because both of those things can make your attic warmer. It will also be worse if your roof is not steep.
This will happen next week Tuesday through Thursday because the temperatures will climb barely over 32 degrees allowing a little bit of melting.

2) Condensation.
Attics that are not properly sealed off from the living area have been accumulating moisture for two weeks.
Cape Cods and Bungalows especially notorious for this because they have weird storage spaces in the built out attics.
If you have canned lights that aren’t sealed from the attic(especially on the top level of your home in bathrooms), bath fans that vent into the attic and don’t vent out of the roof, etc, any moisture that has accumulated in the attic over the last few weeks will thaw and leak next week.

If you have questions on this feel free to message me. I’m not very busy this time of year. 🫡😅

So a lot of people are having an issue with their foundations right now due to the rescent flooding.
Insurance companies are sending out denial letters for ground water seepage, surface water, and subterranean surface water.
There could still be an argument for coverage if the foundation collapsed.
This is because a collapse is not water damage. It’s an ensuing loss resulting from the water damage and ensuing losses are typically covered.
Some policies I’m seeing modify the collapse language to only include 6 types of covered collapses.
Even if the collapse is excluded, you could still have an ensuing loss to the shifting of the house caused by the flood/collapsed foundation that is covered because the policy definitions of collapse does not include this framing shifting.

This stuff is complicated.
If anyone needs a coverage review, send me your policy and denial letter to [email protected]

This is help with policy language from a former adjuster.

When it comes to hiring a storm damage company, most people give similar advice.

1) Make sure they are from the area. Don’t hire a company that, “local in all 50 states.”

At Duration we ONLY work in the greater Milwaukee area.

2) Make sure they understand the insurance process and can write in Xactimate. Insurance companies can be very difficult to deal with and Xactimate is the platform the industry uses to write estimates and communicate.

Before Duration, we were property insurance adjusters. Collectively we have over 40 years of adjusting experience and have the ability to hand the most complex losses. We also frequently get named as appriasers by law firms and other local restoration contractors because of our ability to settle complex insurance disputes. We’re the guys the other professionals call when they need help. 😏

3) Make sure they install a good product, do good work and offer a good warranty.

In 2025, we are making a push to install as many Class 4 impact resistant shingles as possible and we’ve worked out deals with our suppliers to make this happen. We can install a class 4 Malarkey Vista for the RCV amount of most settlements.

Last but not least, our installations. Our crews are well managed. We cover our workmanship with a 5 year warranty. Most of our competition only offers 1 or 2 years. We’ve done over 500 roof installations and have had zero roof leaks.

If your home sustained damage from yesterday’s storm, or if you just want it checked out, reach out to us. We’re happy to help.

Here are some before and after photos of a beautiful home we just finished up!
This customer got a new roof, siding, soffit, fascia and gutters. The roof is Landmark Pro Expresso, with White soffit, fascia and gutters. Also LP Garden Sage 8" LP siding which turned out amazing.
