Trees have roots(!) On this residential lot in a 100 year-old neighborhood, to allow an addition to the house, the whole lot was cleared (unnecessarily) and one tree in the backyard was saved. So much wrong at the start. So construction begins and all the heavy equipment gets parked under the one tree.(?) No tree preservation considered, no root protection installed, no supervision. The tracks show soil disruption and compaction, oxygen exchange for the roots has been corrupted, and parking the equipment under the one tree further damages the roots, and reveals the lack of understanding about the tree roots and the tree. Previous similar experiences like this result in the construction ending, the new homeowners move in and a year+ later they have to take the one tree down because it is in decline. Why preserve a tree that you are not going to save?
