Wolfe Nursery was founded in 1947 by Harry and Dorothy Wolfe, while living in a residential neighborhood in Youngwood, PA. They started the business by removing the backseat from Harry's car to create a "mock" truck. Through the years, Harry's love for plants continued to grow as they realized they were outgrowing their limited workspace. Beginning in 1962, the family business branched out to a 27
acre farm Harry and Dorothy had purchased. With the help of their son, Don, the nursery continued to grow and is now over 100 acres with a large portion being solely "field grown" nursery stock. In 1975 Don's wife, Dawn, came on board and began container production in shade houses with the help of their two children, Alana and Brandon. Alana was in charge of all hosta production and Brandon (since old enough to hold a hose) became the "chief irrigator". The containerized plants allowed Wolfe Nursery to offer a wider selection to their customers. In addition to the nursery, Don and Dawn's passion for unique items and garden treasures lead to the opening of the Wolfe Den Garden Shop in 1990. The shop has grown to over 3,700 square feet and is a wonderland for all ages. The infinite displays give customers ideas to recreate at home. Wolfe Nursery is proud to maintain its family atmosphere with the marketing assistance of Alana (Wolfe) Ficco and Brandon's wife, Jennifer. The 4th generation of Wolfe Nursery staff is already in the works. Don't be surprised to find our two year old grandson, Kaden Ficco, watering the plants as he is the new "chief irrigator". Also, our newborn granddaughter, Scotlyn Rose Wolfe, has prompted our new logo (she's in marketing too even though she doesn't know it yet!). Even our greeters are family members - 4 English Labrador Retrievers! Wolfe Nursery is open year round with limited hours January thru March. Every trip is a new experience - as we change with the seasons!
