You don’t get better by taking the easy ones, you get better when you overcome the next challenge.
When you have come across a task such as this, there is nothing you can do about the damage that has already occurred from the storm, or from the decay of Mother Nature. You have to at this point minimize any further damage in the removal process. This large water oak had a co-dominate central leader and with age and deteriorating crotch angles, the tree split in a brief wind storm a while back. The main part of the tree was healthy but the other two failed due to their branching pattern and the decay formed at the base of the crotch. The two trunks broke off and landed on several out buildings and fencing. Fortunately, the damage was not life threatening, and the limbs had held the tree slightly up off of the buildings in some places and rested in the ridge pole of the buildings on others.
Our job was to safely remove the damage without causing further damage to the property. It becomes a chess game of sorts, with natural products that are prone to decay and abnormalities. Working in tight areas with minimal equipment access was interesting, but in the end we laid the main stem of the tree perfectly thru the four foot wide gate in the fence without and additional damage.
You build your skill, one experience at a time.
You just hope you can master the next challenge and find a challenge worthy of your experience!
