Installation of a 200-amp electrical service upgrade, featuring a 24kW Generac generator with a 200-amp automatic transfer switch (ATS) and surge arrestor. The setup includes a NEMA 3R outdoor 8-space 200-amp breaker panel installed on the garage. Notably, the existing service was located on the detached garage, and a new 200-amp sub-feed was installed underground in between the buildings and then through a crawl space into the basement. Additionally, a 100-amp 20-space sub-panel was installed in the garage. This installation was completed within one day in Mercer, PA. The generator is configured to operate on propane.

A residential single-phase electrical service upgrade now requires, as per the National Electrical Code (NEC), an exterior disconnect means equipped with a surge arrestor. Our electrical service upgrades feature conduit installation to safeguard against premature wire failure caused by exposure to sunlight and weather. This method prevents water from seeping into the meter socket and breaker panel, thereby reducing the risk of corrosion on electrical connections and buss bars. Furthermore, we utilize copper buss main breaker panels, which are more resistant to moisture-related issues compared to aluminum bus panels. Although this approach may incur slightly higher installation costs, it ensures a longer lifespan for the electrical system, eliminating the need for premature replacements. This consideration is crucial when evaluating prices for your electrical service upgrade.
