Crown Maven Roofing Solutions is launching a Summer Leadership & Entrepreneurship Mentorship Program for one high school young man entering 11th or 12th grade.

This is not a roofing labor position.

This mentorship opportunity is designed for a young man interested in leadership, entrepreneurship, business, communication, insurance, marketing, sales, and learning what it actually takes to build and operate a company.

At Crown Maven, we believe in investing in the next generation through mentorship, responsibility, faith, and real world exposure to business ownership.

Selected student receives:
• Leadership mentorship
• Business shadowing experience
• Hands on exposure to entrepreneurship
• Professional communication training
• Exposure to roofing and insurance operations
• Sales and marketing insight
• Weekly participation stipend

The selected student will spend time alongside our owner, Ryan Lane, observing and learning:
• Business operations
• Client communication
• Project management
• Roof inspection processes
• Insurance estimating and documentation
• Scheduling and coordination
• Leadership and professionalism
• Entrepreneurship and work ethic

Communication and character are extremely important to us. We are looking for a respectful, coachable young man with leadership potential and a willingness to learn.

Real talk from a roofer: if your roof looks flat with zero dimension, you’ve got the cheapest shingle made — and it’s only doing favors for the next roofing company who comes to fix it.

Before you sign the dotted line for 3-tab shingle roofing, it’s important to know what they are and if they will hold up in Augusta’s climate.

At Crown Maven, we see roofs that experience damage from storms, leaks or insurance issues regularly. There is a consistent pattern of failures with these roofs.

There are three primary reasons why 3-tab shingles are not an option to consider for roof replacement in Augusta.

1. 3-tab shingles are lighter weight than manufactured materials making them less durable due to weather conditions that we experience in Augusta.

3-tabs are flat in shape with less material than architectural shingles.

Augusta experiences:

- High heat from the sun
- Sudden storms (thunderstorms)
- High winds

These three things lead to the failure of 3-tab shingle roofing systems very quickly.

Commonly see:

- Tabs lifting off the roof
- Creasing from the wind
- A large amount of granule loss

Architectural shingles are thicker and laminated in terms of the asphalt materials, which means the shingles hold their shape and seal better on the roof.

2. The wind resistance of 3-tab shingles is nowhere near as good as architectural shingles.

The majority of 3-tab shingles are rated for wind resistance around 60 mph.

We frequently see winds exceed 60mph in Augusta.

Architectural shingles when installed correctly can be rated for up to 110-130 mph.

The final conclusions for you if you choose to install 3-tab shingles over architectural shingles:

- Less chance of shingles blowing off
- Less frequent patch repairs (less money)
- Less potential for you being denied a storm-related claim due to product wear and tear before six (6) months after the storm.

3-tab shingles are flat on the roof deck and tend to absorb heat better than architectural shingles.

In this area, attic temperatures may reach between 130-150 degrees.

As that heat rises from the attic into your home, it will increase your electrical bill significantly!Consequences of Using 3 Tab Shingles:

- Longer AC run time
- Increased temperature in rooms
- Higher electric bill

The design of architectural shingles allows more airflow and heat to escape, especially when properly ventilated (such as using ridge vents) to keep the attic from heating up and putting stress on the cooling system.

4. Aging issues happen quickly. And they look bad.

3 tab shingles look worn out before they wear out.

Signs of aging include:

- Curled edges
- Bald spots
- Faded and uneven color

All of which affect home values, perceived value in the eyes of buyers, and the appraisal of the home.

Architectural shingles have a more dimensional profile that hides their aging much better.

5. Repair costs add up to an earlier replacement.

3 tab shingles appear cheap until you own them.

The typical experience is:

- A minor repair
- Another repair
- A leak develops
- An accelerated (sooner than expected) full roof replacement

You essentially pay for two roofs.

Although architectural shingles may cost more than 3 tab shingles upfront, they:

- Last longer
- Require fewer repairs
- Perform better in storms
- Help to lower cooling costs (when properly ventilated)

6. Devalue your home

This matters if you ever sell your home or refinance it.

Scenario:

Two identical homes:

- Same size
- Same street

With a three tab roof on one, the home looks older, signals less remaining roof life, and gives off the impression to buyers that they will soon incur additional roof expense (lowers offers).

Conversely, the home with an architectural roof appears higher quality, has longer remaining roof life, and enables buyers to feel one less expense will need to be solved (increases buyer offers).

One house with two types of roofs = two different values.

Architectural roofs do a lot more than protect the house; they also protect its value by helping homeowners retain their equity and will often assist in helping to increase homeowner's equity because typically buyers will pay more for a property that doesn't need a roof before they purchase it.

What actually saves you money is NOT the most inexpensive price today; it is the lowest overall total ownership cost over time!

Architectural shingles have all of the following advantages over 3-tab shingles:

- Longer lifespan
- Fewer repairs
- Improved storm performance
- Decreased cooling costs when installed properly
- Increased resale value and equity
