Day 3 progress at the Sylvania Pond Project!

We’ve officially removed all of the overburden from the pond bottom and have started constructing the dam using quality clay beginning at the keyway — one of the most critical steps in building a long-lasting pond.

Proper compaction, moisture control, and installing the dam in small lifts are what make the difference between a pond that lasts for decades and one that develops problems down the road. We take the time to do it right from the ground up.

This project is coming together great, and we’re excited to see the finished product soon!

We were able to get down south and do some work at our place in Jesup today! The deer and turkeys are going to love us when this project is complete.

Our goal is to improve the habitat while keeping as many healthy native trees as possible. We are leaving the oaks and hickories that are healthy and removing only the trees that are diseased, damaged, or overcrowding each other.

When finished, this will be nearly a 7-acre food plot. This property had been neglected for over 20 years, and unfortunately a lot of the trees we would have liked to save were already in poor condition.

With habitat in mind, this property borders hundreds of acres of swamp. The wildlife already has plenty of cover and natural acorns in the swamp, but what they lack is high-protein forage at ground level year round. We are transforming this cleared area into a quality food source that will help support healthier deer and turkey populations year-round.

Day 2 Update

Today we hauled in 30 loads of fill to the future building site and another 15 loads for the new access road. We’re making great progress getting down to solid clay so this pond can be sealed the right way.

Next step is removing the remaining unsuitable material and packing in a solid keyway to ensure a long-lasting, watertight pond that can be enjoyed for generations. Quality work and doing it right from the ground up.

After the rain during day 1, we removed majority of the topsoil for this new pond area!
